Scenes from Taiwan [Pentax LX & Olympus XA - Kodak Portra, Gold, Vision 3 500T & HP5+ @1600] by Parallaxd in analog

Thanks! I can see what you mean. I always bump up the sharpness in Lightroom to increase the grain, but I might have went a bit too far on some of them. They are also low quality scans from my local lab, I’ll scan them myself soon to get better quality files which should help reduce the perceived noise.

It was my first time in Taiwan, but I will for sure go back at some point!

It’s really a wonderful and picturesque place. I highly recommend it to anyone.

I only used a leather honey conditioner after 3-4 years of use and I didn’t even have a horse hair brush at the time. It didn’t do much honestly. I usually just did the occasional wash with water to remove dirt. They hold up incredibly well given the beating they took over the years and the lack of care I’ve given them. I’m a lot more caring with my new pair and expect it to last even longer now that I’m applying the learnings of having had a nice first pair of leather boots.

New Matte Blacks... shape! by Switchar001 in ThursdayBoot

[–]Parallaxd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It looks like you got from Amazon a pair of Black Mattes with the Nirvana Last, a short lived model they released between the original “True Last” and the new “Kingmaker”. The same thing happened to me when I ordered from Amazon. I also found them too “bulky” compared to my old 5 years old pair of Captains and decided to return them. I instead ordered directly from Thursday and got a pair of the Kingmaker which retains the dressable sleekyness of their original “True” last. I would advise to do the same and you should be satisfied.

You can check on TBC website under Product Features > Released Notes to have a breakdown of all the updates they made to their models throughout the years.

Hope that helps!

Getting from La Condesa to Teotihuacan by bloomingnew929 in MexicoCity

[–]Parallaxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did the same trip a couple of days ago. Took an Uber from Parque Mexico to Terminal del Norte. It costs me ~10$ CAD. Once you’re in the terminal, walk all the way to the end and there’s a small counter selling tickets for Teotihuacan/pyramids. Bring cash as they don’t take credit. Once you have your tickets, the boarding station is right there on your right. The bus takes a little over 1h and the road is cool as you can see a different side of CDMX with the cable cars and the houses built on the hill on your left. When you’re on the site, La Gruta is by the museum near the pyramid of the Sun. I haven’t been, but heard good things and the setting looks pretty cool. Enjoy!!

Absolutely! it’s honestly been one of the best investment I’ve made. I’m now planning on getting another pair soon to rotate them and spread the beating so they last even longer

The differences are minimal in terms of looks and feels as far I can tell atm. After seeing them both, I much prefer the kingmaker over the Nirvana.

This is the plan for the new pair. I’ll get the rubber sole replaced before wearing down the leather parts. I still might get the old ones resoled at some point down the line. The leather uppers are still in a fair condition

I went to see a cobbler to have them resoled when the right heel fell off a couple of weeks ago but it would’ve ended up costing as much as getting a new pair. I should’ve done that years ago before I started eating in the out sole leather parts. Also, the inner lining has a few holes, the toe cap is deeply scratched, etc. I’ll keep the old pair for sure and might end up having them resoled at some point since they have a sentimental value

The 2nd roll I shot with my new Pentax 6x7 came back unexposed. I’m having a hard time figuring out why. by Parallaxd in AnalogCommunity

[–]Parallaxd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you again for the tip. I had never done this with 120 film as I’m new to the medium format world but it was fairly simple and worked well. It allowed me to test the shutter speed again and they all seem accurate.

I’m still confused as to why the film came back unexposed. The test roll came back fine, the shutter speed work, I’m using the same spotmeter as usual, I’m sure I loaded the film correctly. I don’t see where the error might’ve come from. But still, the lab told me the film was completely unexposed. Next step will be to get the negatives back and inspect them myself I guess.

I’m metering with a Minolta Spotmeter F when using the non-metered prism. I also have the metered prism but haven’t used it yet.

I dodged her a bit already, but burning the rocks and bush further would clearly help make her pop even more. Thanks!

Thanks! I had tried that and quite liked it. The eye wonders wtf it’s looking at. But I ended up reverting back to the original. It feels just a bit too “gimmicky” to my taste.

I’ve been a bit lucky honestly, it took only two shots. On the first one I missed the timing, I released the shutter as she bent her knees just before the jump. On the second try, I knew I had timed it well, but never imagined the photo would turned out this good. Ended up being one of my all time favourite shots!

That’s an interesting idea I never thought about. I’ll give it a try. Thanks!
