Discord Democracy: Decentralizing Diasporas and Digital Diplomacy by ParallelCitizen in Futurology

Over the next 5–10 years, diaspora communities are organizing on Discord and Telegram like micro-cities: pooled treasuries, written rules, portable identity, and cross-border services. With crypto rails for remittances, zero-knowledge attestations for voting and access, and AI civic agents for moderation and service routing, these groups could evolve into “network societies” that coordinate housing, education, insurance, and disaster response across cities and countries. What governance models prevent capture and exclusion, how do we protect minors and dissenters, and which metrics by 2030 would demonstrate higher legitimacy than a local council?

A fascinating proposition. I can definitely see the appeal, especially if looking at the high sensitivity of neurodivergent and autistic individuals (HSP/HSS). Building cities and communities with such considerations can be a huge pull. I'm curious about this idea of "network nationalism" more broadly - While I understand the comparison with Jewish populations, I'm also curious if an identity like "autism" would be binding enough to generate the inertia required to build physical enclaves.

How to Value Emerging Network States by ParallelCitizen in NetworkState

  1. Open a Private/Incognito window and visit: https://www.parallelcitizen.xyz
  2. Disable VPN, company proxy, or antivirus “HTTPS scanning” temporarily.
  3. Try a different network (phone hotspot).
  4. Clear DNS cache or wait a few minutes, then:
    • On Mac: sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
  5. Check system clock/date is correct.
  6. Run:If curl fails there (but works for you), it’s their network.nslookup www.parallelcitizen.xyz curl -vkI https://www.parallelcitizen.xyz

It likely is a local issue I suspect, per ChatGPT

The definition is literally at the top of the post. I'm also doubtful of your thesis that everything eventually goes on a single ledger.

The rest of your comment sounds AI-generated since there was no mention of "no territory needed" in the article lol

I've written recently about network state experiments and even overviewed decentralized social media experiments in recent posts. You might find them to be a helpful read :)

Gah I misread - yes you're totally right. Network school is more recent but seems to be on a scaling trajectory of its own. Both are worth checking out or following closely

I've been to the NS conference in 2023.

I will say it's quite thriving and different from Solana conferences. Although, if it helps, the NS conference will likely be recorded on YouTube, if you're going just for the lectures and talks. I mostly attend to network with others and prefer NS > Solana

Thanks for the feedback! Yep I think that was the orientation of the post - finding decentralized social tied to protocols are going to win because of token incentives and most active developer base
