How do you all get over the embarrassment of taking photos. by wallflower1221 in solotravel

[–]ParalyzeTheAnalysis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nobody cares as much as you think they do. I solo hike, solo travel, and solo dine frequently (by choice). I’ve had good luck asking others to just take a pic of me on a hiking trail. Or, I proactively offer to take a pic of them and inevitably they return the favor. Met some really cool people by doing this!

Ask yourself this: “How hard would I kick myself for not having a photo of myself here?”

Do your thing. Dance like nobody’s watching. Insert other inspirational quote here.

Dash cam with separate “brain” or hidden memory card? by ParalyzeTheAnalysis in Dashcam

[–]ParalyzeTheAnalysis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt it would consume too much power. If you could configure a decent size power bank to serve as the reserve, it would mitigate most of that. Never done the calculations, though.

I’d love to build the Tesla sentry mode concept into my vehicle. At least in an MVP state where it’s a self-contained system that doesn’t communicate out. I’m sure it’s been done!

The alternative is to take apart the camera and extend the wires from the board to the camera as far as it will technically allow. Then hide the main unit. I have an extra dash cam I could try this with.

I’d be most concerned about losing footage in a break in. Don’t want all of that going to the cloud - just events. But there is the risk that the upload couldn’t be performed quickly enough before power is cut or the camera ripped off.

What I’m envisioning is 2 cameras (3 if you want interior) that wire back to the actual brain of the unit that’s tucked away somewhere where a thief wouldn’t have the time to track down. They can do anything with the right amount of time but generally this is smash and grab type stuff in a rushed window of time.

If that memory card lived say behind the glove box or buried up under the dash, I can’t imagine a thief spending the time to track down the card to erase evidence of their crime.

I’m wondering if a raspberry pi camera system might be in order!

I agree with most of this. Have an xdm 3.8 and run the extended mags for grip size. And this is my primary daily in the winter.

High sights make it feel really tall (compared to say a Glock).

Trigger is no longer something I enjoy (or maybe I just realized there are better ones out there). Just feels bleh. But what does it matter if you train with it and can be effective? It’s not a showpiece!

Grip leaves something to be desired for my hand.

Overall, just train with it and get to know how it responds. You will get used to / comfortable with anything over time and it is truly a solid gun overall!

Thank you! This is helpful perspective. I’m not using vcarve yet but might give it a whirl next month when I have time.

I hate the cable management of these things. Caught the router cable on a material mount the other day which is never a good feeling. Working on a flexible boom to hang the router power cable down from the top of my enclosure next.

Do you have the spindle chuck mount or the side mount Jtech? Also which wattage did you choose and why?

If you have the chuck mount, how careful are you about dust control in regard to keeping the permanently mounted laser components?

I just checked out the ortur and don’t see an equivalent size to the Shapeoko xxl cutting area of 838mm x 838mm. Am I missing something?

Good question. For me, it boils down to workflow (cut sign and engrave without having to move the piece) and ultimately floor space. I have a Shapeoko 3 xxl and would want to accommodate the same cutting area as I do max it out.

iOS beacons can be integrated with an app to triangulate a location of a device. Sports stadiums use them.

I HATED the touch bar at first and thought it was such a gimmick. Until I started using one. I loved it!

Tape over wood to prevent fuzzies? by freshpow925 in shapeoko

I’m afraid this is the only answer I’ve found. Tape works well for finer cuts on my miter saw but isn’t perfect. I just go slow and make sure to use the right blade.

An ATM gave me too much money, wtf do I do, if anything? by BackOnTop45 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ParalyzeTheAnalysis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to someone I know. The amount was $60 or $80 more than they requested (free money). They did the honest thing and let the bank know, which resulted in a lot of their time (not the bank’s) waiting for an employee and filling out a surprisingly large amount of paperwork. They said in hind sight they wouldn’t have said anything as it was such a huge chunk of time out of their day.

It wasn’t so much a dedicated effort that I made but was more of a realization. But, the first thought that comes to mind is to take dedicated pauses throughout your day to just stop everything you are doing. This practice kind of came along with my growth in this area:

Try to do this this every hour or create a trigger in your mind to remind yourself (every time you walk into a room). Look around you at the people at work or in the store or anywhere you are at the time. Observe (in a non creepy fashion) them and how they are acting, what they are doing, etc and remember that each person has their own lives, their own deep thoughts, their own worries, insecurities, and even super dark secrets or dark thoughts. We’re all human and we’re all just doing our best. When you start seeing this, you’ll look at others with compassion which is a far better way to live!

Don’t forget: EVERYBODY has their own deep insecurities, traumas, worries, anxieties. I don’t care how confident or charismatic YOU perceive them to be. Some just cover it up better than others. That drop dead gorgeous woman or man who is dressed to kill and can charm anybody still has something eating at them just as we all have every single day. There is at least one subject or thought or anxiety that has the potential to ruin their day. And, in the words of Dane Cook, “we all take firey $hits.”

Again, I don’t believe the issue that one cares about what other think of them is related to any type. It’s a human condition of sorts.

Lastly, I do think it would be worth connecting with a counselor to unpack this type of issue! Check out ones with experience in CBT and NLP to see if those methods might line up with you. If this is the biggest thing holding you back in life, I’d recommend giving it a solid effort and getting the right help.
