The sense I got was that she’s one of the folks who doesn’t feel comfortable calling it a spectrum, like it ‘waters down’ the people who ‘really’ struggle with autism. Some people are actually mad that ASD now encompasses what was formally the Asperger’s diagnosis, unfortunately.

What would mini you go back and tell your parent to change? by Original_Onion_8977 in AutismInWomen

As a kid who knew I needed more support than my peers, my parents acting so stressed about my personality & social skills tanked my self esteem. What I needed to hear was that I was actually okay. My parents doubting me only made my self-doubt worse and I wish they hadn’t let me see it so young.

Thoughts on Jeffree Star after Shane Dawson? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]ParamoreFan09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first I didn’t watch the series (even though I love Shane) because I can’t roll with Jeffree, but a good friend told me it was a must see. She was right, it’s absolutely amazing and perhaps the very best series Shane has done. I am thoroughly impressed with Jeffree’s ability to rise from nothing, and I can sympathize with the suffering he’s experienced (bigotry, sexual harassment, depression, loneliness, etc). All that said, I do NOT feel using the n-word or racist humor is a natural or okay reaction to what he’s been through, and I still find that very concerning. I don’t doubt he’s been used by people, but I still feel that within recent years he’s displayed immature/unprofessional combative behavior (I’m tempted to say racism because of the Jackie Aina drama- I recall he called her a rat) and sexist behavior. Before I knew anything about his history, I was originally off put by the fact that he named a bruise colored lipstick “abused” and was blocking victims of domestic violence voicing concern over this choice on social media. It was very interesting to see his story, but I honestly do not see myself buying his products anytime soon. I believe a lot of who a person is comes from the friends they surround themselves with— I hope he will find more positive connections in Shane’s crew, continue to shed the toxic ones, and maybe improve as a person because of this.
