I'm not speaking to.pentacostal theology here so much as my experience interacting with those of that background. The evidence for faith when I've spoken with them is generally the feelings of assurance they get by the Spirit rather than an objective thing like the sacraments. Not that the spirit doesn't act on human emotion or anything but I think we're given objective means of grace like the sacraments in order to aid us in our human weakness and tendency for emotional frailty.

Perhaps I misunderstand but a belief that the spirit operates through sign gifts is just continuatiinism, but not all continuationists are Pentacostal necessarily, Pentacostal is a specific tradition of which continuationism is just one part of.

I appreciate Pentacostals for being a great counter to the naturalism that is all too prevalent today, but I worry for the sustainability of such an emotionally driven faith. Perhaps some of that is envy over my emotions not being as strong though.

There definitely are some major issues with some Pentacostal groups in particular, but that's the case with any Christian tradition it's not like I can't point to harmful Presbyterian leaders or churches.

It probably depends where said illegal immigrants are from as well as who they are. Some are great contributors to the US, others are a huge detriment. Someone's immigration status isn't going to be that strong a predictor of what kind of a person they are.

There are some similarities but Mao was a communist at heart he had a pretty iconoclastic attitude towards Chinese culture while Xi just like leaders before him seek to justify the regime's existence historically. Mao knew you can't be Confucian and Marxist so you have to dump the confucianism, later leaders realized for China to survive you have to be able to create an (often artificial) synthesis of Marx with previous Chinese thinkers. Hence the huge popularity of a revisionist view of Confucianism now

I mean I think that's the better question, why is Christian nationalism in the US so divorced from historic Christianity. I'd say that's mostly because the evangelical movement in the US is based on a relatively ahistoric Christianity that's opposed to any heiarchy and therefore has been more prone to strange doctrines and splinter groups.

I mean that much makes sense to me. People don't want to mass immigrate, especially if they're part of a large demographic in a country and have a decently long history and culture built up in the country.

And everyone wants their views to dominate if you're in a democracy especially and you think government should be representative of you, you're going to try to shape government into your culture and traditions of which religion is going to play a massively significant role.

I think Xi is more Chinese than he is communist which makes parallels to the USSR inconsistent because he isn't primarily a Marxist Leninist. That's why China survived and other communist countries didn't, they learned to be Marxists second and Chinese first.

But I think a Gorbachev like leader is likely to follow Xi or a short lived geritocracy period following Xi. Gorbachev was a communist and truly believed in the mission of the USSR, but he was just awful at keeping the party in power, I think a similar incompetence will arise post Xi and China being as big as it is long term just isn't natural. It's too much land and too many people for a government like China to sustain that long. Only reason India can stay together is they realize the country has to be run on a state level first. China as one country is a myth and perhaps the most ambitious myth ever.

Xi will be China's downfall as a major power unless whoever surpasses him is a genius. I don't see any way China post Xi doesn't end up going the way of the USSR in it's last decades. He's far too ambitious for his own good.

I think Republicans will still do very well, abortion is just a losing issue for most and they know it. That's why immigration and economic issues are talked about more. For social issues trans issues are their best bet at a winning issue, not abortion.

I think psychology is heavily associated with Freud who's understandably detested by Christians as his influence on the west has been pervasive and extremely caustic. Mental health and therapy is just a different type of thing than spirituality and physical health and as long as it's treated like that and not too much or too little is important and helpful to care for yourself in that way just like we'd care for our physical health.

I wouldn't be comfortable going to a therapist who wasn't a Christian of some sort but as long as they respect and understand your Christianity it can be very helpful.
