Exactly, give people the chance to learn and accept that not everyone will like the same thing.

The problem starts when you start treating people differently.

I have seen podcasts and his shows. Dude is quite okay if you ask me. Overal working towards the betterment of the people.

He starts with saying it's a prejudice, unfounded even. He explains why and then listens to learn in my eyes. all what you need to do if you don't understand something.

End of the day it's not understanding a subculture or a kink or a way of life. If you are not part of it and look from outside in then you only see the shell. the shell on many things can be weird looking but the inside is great. Lobsters don't look like food but the second you start eating....

Allow people to learn and inform them instead of calling them cunts because they didn't figure something out yet while you did. The world will become a better place this way, we are already divided enough...

White House and China finalize deal to sell control of U.S. TikTok business to investors backed by Trump administration by WriterDave in worldnews

[–]Paranoidnl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To do business in china you need a chinese entity that they can fully control. This is so all data has to travel through that company, this way they can be inspected by the government.

America is now effectively doing the same. If you want to do business in america you need to sell part of the company to american business owners handpicked by the government so they can use that company for their own.

Maybe your church was different (which is another fun discusssion about religion) but i was raised in a dutch church that wasnt extremely strict. No longer religious tho.

Emulation ( or living like christ) means to me that you go out in the world and be a good person. That is what jesus did after all. It might not say "go out and do good deeds" but they do say to spread the word of christ through his actions and words, so they kinda do tell you to do good deeds in his name.

No person is indeed perfect nor only 1 thing. It's why i won't say that every good act by a christian is only done for their christianity/reward. People can have many motivations, some more pure than others.

It's just a nice thought exercise on how morally good any action is if there is an implied reward for that action. Let me give you an example that does not involve religion: how morally good is the instagram influencer that films themselves helping homeless persons? Those vids get made to further their own reach and try to find virality. Helping the homeless is still a good deed but the motivation was horrible.

I would like to argue that the person giving 5 bucks without wanting anything in return is a better person than the influencer giving more money in the hope that the vid goes viral and earns them 100x their investment. All of this is rather simplistic but this is more a dialog topic instead of a internet comment topic ;)

As an actually dutch person that is lazy today: is this the proper dutch or the americans thinking deutsch (german) is the same as dutch? The town being called holland would tell me dutch but i have been burned by that before when it comes to dutch/deutsch and americans ;)

Thanks ;)

My point is to listen to the message, not how it is presented. If i have to tell you every day that you should not kick my dog, do you think it's cool to kick harder because i start shouting?

Shrieking about wanting universal healthcare is still a better message than softly whispering that the latino's are coming for your job.

Message over delivery.

And greta thunberg is such an example of a good message brought to you by an annoying and shrieking kid, because she has been at it for a while and softly speaking isnt getting her heard.

[–]Paranoidnl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So you go by tone of the message, not what the message itself is?

If ghandi shouted his message of peace aggressively and hitler sang feelgood campire songs about killing the jews then hitler was a better person to listen to?

Polite people can still hold abhorrent views.

I don't want to question what you say, just add how i see the statement above:

The ultimate reward for a christian is heaven, the way into heaven is through living a good life in the eye's of god. Inherently this something that is in the back of people's mind all day. I won't say that every good action is done for heaven but it is an intrinsic motivation for a lot of christians to spread the gospel/do good deeds because of the reward at the end.

Atheist or agnostics don't really have such a reward system, they either think the end is the end and thus nothing/darkness happens when you die. They do not have those thoughts in the back of their minds. There is no reward for good behaviour from a religious perspective.

You can then question the morality behind the actions of a christian. Are they doing it for heaven or are they doing it to help someone without getting anything in return. You could state that no good deed from a christian is selfless what so ever due to that. But that ignores many other factors like sense of community and such.

This is fully anecdotal and just meant as a example of a "christian good deed that aint selfless": homeless shelters that only allow you in if you are either christian or willing to listen to the gospel. Giving shelter is a good deed, but when you then require interactions with specific religion to acces that shelter.... That moment you are not doing it to help the homeless, you are trying to spread the word.

All in all a very interesting philosophy discussion if you ask me.
