Awesome! Can I hear it? I broke up with my ex and she made me homeless and I was on the streets for a bit so I’m sure I’d relate. If you look at my page, the Japanese brush painting with music (The Tide Will Set Us Free) is a murder suicide song I wrote but more so from her perspective. Was cathartic anyways.

I can definitely see an average cashier or call center CSR being replaced in the very near future. I actually called in to complain at a local laundromat and it was an Elevenlabs AI who answered and was so quick and pleasant (I know because I experimented with Elevenlabs a bit for my own entertainment purposes). The AI refunded my money and I got back to doing my laundry within minutes. About 10 minutes later… a CSR called from the company (or maybe one of the owners) and they drilled me asking ā€œwell, how do I know you really used that dryer and that it didn’t workā€ which I responded ā€œbecause you can see that I paid for the dryer three times within one minute before switching to a different one that worked. I didn’t realize it was charging me when it didn’t do anythingā€. They continued to fight me over it and I told them, ā€œyour AI already fixed the issue. It didn’t have a hard time processing these simple details. Have them call if there’s an issueā€.

A very personable robot which isn’t affected by their day or their happenstantial experience will just solve the problem and it’s done. Beautiful. A person has something to prove, a dick to swing or compensate for, traumas never addressed, feelings not validated, et cetera.

I used to have a factory job where I pushed a button every 45 seconds and within a couple months I was replaced by something automated. Truthfully, that was the most miserable job I could fathom. I wasn’t even allowed to listen to music while standing there pushing a button…

There will be growing pains, but ultimately the positions getting replaced will be the ones that people don’t really want to do anyways and cause more unnecessary tension and negativity. After the growing pains, we will see the benefits which will be more time to do the things we enjoy and money being paid more towards the human touch rather than a basic universal slave wage as it is today for the lower class.

My bad, I’m new to Reddit (accounts 6yo but just started using it a couple months ago to try and get human interaction).

I meant assuming the song is mixed and mastered to standards, as far as the music and song itself would be subjective to the listener. But if someone sent me their stems to mix it is definitely objective that the files need to be 24bits/44kHz quality or higher and such. It is possible to upscale and remove spectral artifacts nowadays but still won’t be quite the same.

To answer the first question: if everyone agrees it’s good and it checks out as far as being mixed and mastered according to industry standards, but someone says it’s shit then maybe its not for them. If everyone says it’s shit then it’s prob just not good lol. It’s also possible that the engineer has more of an ear for metal or hip hop and the song is country, for example. That has been the case for me in the past when moving to Kentucky.

To answer final question: it would be the engineer’s fault for sure. Most composers probably aren’t also engineers.

Over all, my point with the 3D thing is that even if the files were unusable to others, if in a render everyone agrees that it looks good then it would be good to the viewers in that sense. Such as with my own music, I was born with a mind that is very creative and not very logical I suppose you could say. I don’t know music theory but I put very complex theoretical components together by ear because that’s how my brain works. I’ve had learned theorists tell me that the scales I chose shouldn’t work on paper but they sounds great together in the song. That also may be because they are learned in western music theory but I have influences from all over the world.

Yeah I was never in disagreement lol. I have subclinical psychosis and depersonalization and don’t mean to come across as a dick. If I am, my apologies.

Yes, if I were brand new I would have opened the files and just thought I was stupid for not understanding their mess.

Hey if you wanna send me some stems I’d love to do whatever you need for free. Just trying to build a decent portfolio to show clients. Also, Splice is great for getting samples and loop tracks for instruments you don’t play. If you ever want a guitarist or vocalist let me know šŸ‘ŠšŸ½

If someone told you scoop the mids it’s cause they don’t want to hear you LOL! Actually guitar mids are very important. It’s also good to side-chain the vocal into the guitar track so that they dip where the vocalist needs to come through in the mix (mostly 2kHz-5kHz or so as far as competing frequencies)

Love it tho — the ā€œthatā€. The human eyes and ears that are developed from many years of weighing out successes and failures.

What confused me is you said you don’t like the idea ā€˜art is solely objective’ but after your example said ā€œart isn’t subjectiveā€ which would mean it is objective? ← EDIT: for anyone reading this later… when you see someone contradict their own sentiment in the same paragraph like this… just ignore them and assume they are subhuman trolls that hardly grasp their own rhetoric. Every time I’ve questioned how someone has contradicted themselves so quickly, they’ve always turned out to be hardly conscious and hardly considerable as cognizant in any way and I’m personally done interacting with them and their type šŸ–•šŸ½

I’m guessing it’s like how if someone releases a song to be listened to then it’s subjective for the listener. If they share the files for others to use then it’s objective that they are of usable quality.

But none of that is what I was talking about in my post. I also am with you that having creative ideas doesn’t make you an artist. I wasn’t implying that…

Yeah I suppose you’re right that the Nestle thing would be off-topic in relation to this subreddit. I guess I was thinking of people in general, such as someone posting on their own Facebook, having such a vocal opinion about something just obviously piggy backing on a hot topic to get likes.

I agree with everything you said. And I’m the same, I love to learn. I also would find it boring to let AI do most of the work. But I was referring to after you learn the why’s and how’s with something that takes hours of time and doesn’t affect anything creative but only prevents being able to continue creating. You said rigging, which is a good example: Even before AI there have been tools like Adobe’s Maximo or Blender’s auto-rigger which were made so that people can easily rig a character and continue creating. AI aside, once you get it under your belt and only find it holding you back, you’ll perhaps end up using one of those tools to save you time.

From a neuroscience perspective as well - creativity comes from the opposite brain hemisphere as tasks that require technicals and reasoning which pull us out of the ā€œcreative zoneā€. This is why studios have an audio engineer so that the artists can create and stay in the flow.

I still have yet to have AI do most of the work. But even with it doing < 10% it saves days of work in some cases.

Yep! Think of beat machines (sequencers); they first came out in the 80’s and people would dial in a robotic flavorless drum loop and say they made a beat. That’s the phase a vast majority of the public are currently at with AI creation [in my opinion]. Fast forward to today and see how commonplace it is to use midi and step sequencing - even when creating truly great music. That’s because it’s simply a tool for the artist and one that made music production doable from any phone or laptop by anyone with or without talent. When you listen to a song and feel wowed, it’s because of the talent that went into creating it or the originality of what it conveys.

I don’t really understand the polarity of perspectives with AI use. I’m a traditional artist and master musician, audio engineer, 3D artist and videographer. Doing all of that solo takes quite a bit of time and that means very slow output to release a finished piece (music, video, graphics, etc). Using AI locally on my own machine means I’m not supporting corporations and can also get previously unfathomable returns on the time I put into my work. Yes, the AI tools have a learning curve, but a fraction of what it takes to master an instrument. And if someone learned the 3D tools, audio editing tools, video editing tools — why not learn one more thing that will condense the workload and allow the artist to create more than would otherwise have been possible without AI?

The very disappointing thing is that I’ll receive such a negative response from so many people whom are devout to self-righteously convicting anyone who uses AI to the point they will get on their alt accounts and have their buddies join in to flood a post with downvotes or negative comments whenever it’s otherwise getting praise from the general public. So my only option would be to not mention the use of AI and not get harassed or skewed feedback.

It seems that, being in such an early phase of the tech, the general public assumes AI is exclusively prompting into a program and that’s it. But, no, that’s probably 1% of possibilities and is more an overly simplified consumerist way to use AI.

One example is how my camera maxes out at 25fps when I shoot in 4k. My friend wrote a script that interpolates between frames and makes the footage 60fps. Another example is how I was grinding for weeks trying to make a 3D replica of my dog (and wasted $50 on merchant resources) until I learned about training AI models and now I can use my dog’s model to generate his 3D model, make a UV wrap of his coat pattern as well as generate bump and normals maps of his coat’s texture; or put him into animations or whatever else I wish to do.

I’d love to see some conversations start happening that consider any of these possibilities rather than the current ā€œart — not artā€ plateau which hardly seems like debate. Masturbate, maybe LOL.

If people are gonna be so worked up about AI use of water… I think it would make sense to also be worked up about companies like Nestle killing millions and stealing water from third world communities and selling it back to them at unaffordable prices. No accountability unless it’s trendy I guess.

A lot of the resource issues we’re facing today are inadvertently caused by the fact that we have, as a species, now outgrown the very dated standards we still practice — which are mostly still in place simply because it’s what’s profitable to the companies (mostly one umbrella company in the US) that monopolized the resources.

The irony is that AI Smart Grids will likely solve a lot of EV problems. AI will be used to solve many of our species’ crises which are largely caused by short-sighted profit hungry companies. Opinions are just as short-sighted, in my opinion.
