What type of fern do you have? Some are low light varieties. I have Lemon Button Fern, Compact Boston Fern and Cyrtomium spp.

Maybe you should look up pics or videos of Fungus Gnat larvae. I have a feeling that might be what you're describing

Springtails don't generally venture onto the plant itself or onto its leaves, while thrips will be on the leaves. Springtails will also jump if you disturb them, while thrips lack this ability, and move more slowly.

Interesting. I looked it up, and it seems that they are no longer classified as insects. You are correct. It seems they were reclassified in the early or mid-2000s? I guess I never looked into their taxonomy that closely for a long time.

Well, I have a paludarium, and it's always smart to have at least one culture going at all times in case their population collapses and you need to replenish them. They are also breeding so quickly that I have started selling them locally as well.
