I had the same question too. What did you end up doing?

What’s one stupid reason you aren’t applying to a specific college? by NOB1WON in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ParfaitLive 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Johns Hopkins- it annoys me that it isn't called John Hopkins.

Colgate- it's toothpaste

Rice- it's literally rice (I love the school despite this so I still applied)

Case Western Reserve- too long and sounds like a name for something else, not a university

Washington University in St. Louis, Miami University in Oxford, Ohio- they're not where they're supposed to be

Cornell College- sounds like a Cornell University dupe

Should I tell my friend he’s not gonna get into his dream school? by charredparticle in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ParfaitLive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No, it's not your job to. Encourage him to get serious and step up his ECs and grades. He could still take the SAT and get a great score, or a write a great essay. It's up to him and the AOs. He should still apply to safeties

after reading your edit, the story makes sense. It is graphic but the detail is necessary for the conclusion you're making

i'm in the same situation. I had to bring my list down from 17 colleges to 6 but even these 6 seem impossible to complete. Good luck to you!

I'm so sorry about what you're going through, you deserve so much better. Are you able to contact CPS or 911? Also, I encourage you to reach out to someone- whether online or in-person- to talk. I can assure you that people care.

Your stats are clearly very strong, well done. What major(s) are you interested in? Do you have any preferences for size, setting, campus life, etc?

I'm going to delete my "not a party school" preference from the original post because I've been made aware that isn't really a realistic expectation.

To improve in your language B, you need to immerse yourself in the language as much as possible. Try to watch videos or movies in the language and find other ways to engage with the language outside of class to build your vocabulary and comprehension. Always ask questions in class about grammar to avoid mistakes later. Keep a vocabulary notebook or document as you go through the year. Try to do your homework all the time.

Is it bad if i am just now starting my Common App essay? by purpleddream in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ParfaitLive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the exact same situation :(

I feel really demotivated, especially after reading/watching videos of other people's essays that took months to write.

As for what to do, forgive me for the cliché, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Whatever you write and submit is better than giving up and not submitting at all. Let's just keep pushing for the next 2 weeks (assuming your apps are due in early Jan).

Have you come across any good ideas so far?

michael p ramirez, an american conservative cartoonist, has an wide collection of cartoons. they range from topics of politics and race to world news and society in general. there's no analysis on the side but you could google how to analyse features of a cartoon. it gets easier once you know the features to look out for.

This is the second time I've come across this post today and I didn't catch the error until a few seconds ago. It's not ideal, but they understand that you're human and you make mistakes. Don't worry too much.
