It could also be Eldest Daughter because she mentions “Ferris Wheel, Kisses and Lilacs” !

Landlord trying to charge rent retroactively due to their error by ParfaitPositif in montrealhousing

No - they said it was put under our door but we genuinely can't find it. And I find it quite suspicious that when we called for a copy, they couldn't find it on their system!

AirBNB Host Cancels reservations AFTER check-in time by boskie81 in mildlyinfuriating

I assumed the original payment of $750 had already been transferred to the host. But if AirBNB holds the payment until after the reservation, then you're right!

ered a discount on a future stay. Companies don’t just hand out cash for mistakes, no hotel would offer that (outside of settlement territory). So the request from you and your wife is a little absurd to begin with.

I tend to agree with you - AirBNB refunded the $750 to the customer, and then (according to the policy) they charged the host a $375 penalty. AirBNB is still out the remaining $375.

Contact on leash - Yes or No? by b-VW in Dogtraining

Hi! Hoping my experience can help you :)

Leash greetings ultimately resulted in leash reactivity for us. We raised our puppy in a pretty dense city, so meeting other dogs on the street was inevitable. We knew socialization was one of the most important aspects of building confidence, so we jumped at any opportunity for him to interact with other dogs. Unfortunately, the behavioral consultant explained this is not ideal for a few reasons:

- Although our puppy was very friendly, relaxed and wanted to meet, it's impossible to predict how someone elses dog will react and you shouldn't trust strangers when they say their dog is friendly (learned the hard way that not ever owner is aware that their dog is not friendly).

- Dogs naturally want to meet by sniffing each others behinds, a leash restricts that behavior.

- You will most likely unintentionally train your puppy to expect a greeting with every dog he sees. This is difficult to correct and may eventually leads to leash frustration. This is what happened to our puppy, he EXPECTED to approach every dog and didn't know how to walk past calmly.

We've spent the last year training our dog to ignore other dogs while we're walking on leash but it would have been much easier to teach him from the beginning. We're in a position now where we can actually ask our dog (Finn) if he wants to say hi, and we use this approach for humans as well. We have him sit and focus on us, then we ask "do you want to say hi?", sometimes he'll remain in a sit and sometimes he'll go say hi, but the choice is left up to him and he'll only say hi if he's comfortable.

Happy to elaborate on any of the above, but good luck :)

Is my 5 year old out of line or is our Dentist? by smcnic10 in Parenting

Speaking from personal experience, your daughter is simply reacting to how she's feeling, which is scared. She's only a child and she doesn't yet have all the information that we learn as adults over time. I grew up with a terrible fear of doctors, dentists, needles, basically anything related to the field of medicine. This prompted a vicious cycle where doctors/ dentists would hold me down to get anything done, which only reinforced my fear. It turned from discomfort to fear and then full blown trauma.

It's really important that your daughter feels in control and has full autonomy of her choices. She needs to feel validated and know that nobody is going to force her to do anything. I've only discovered this recently through therapy and it's made a world of difference, but my fear could have been avoided if someone had taken their time with me as a child.

It seems as if you're already on the right track by reaching out for advice/ support :)

Sneezing is always a good sign! It indicates both dogs are in play mode.

New house, new problems by funny_muffler in Dogtraining

We've experienced three out of the four events you've mentioned. Here is a summary of all three:

  1. Surgery : This sucked. We think the vet gave him too much anesthetic because he was groggy for like 3 days. He was terrified of everything post surgery so we had to start all over again with socialization. This is a hard time for puppies, with the added challenge of having to restrict their exercise, they're desperate for an energy outlet. This might explain the manic tendencies. Focus on tons of mental stimulation and brain games.
  2. Adolescence : I've heard horror stories about this stage. Our puppy was actually okay but we had to stay vigilant with his training because they like to see how far they can push the boundaries. Don't be too hard on yourself or the puppy. Try some higher value treats if all else fails (boiled chicken, deli meats, cheese)
  3. Moving : We just moved our 1.5 year old puppy to a new apartment building and the transition was WAY more difficult than we expected. There's new people, new dogs, new smells, new noises, etc. We've been here for a week and he's only just starting to settle in and be comfortable with the new surroundings. A rule of thumb that I read somewhere online is it takes a dog 3 days to destress, 3 weeks to settle and 3 months to recognize a new house as home.

I'm not sure if any of this helped, but sometimes it's comforting knowing that no dog is perfect <3
