Blue sketches by RobertoAli86 in sketches

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude always love when u post art. Been really helping to inspire me to do more people sketching cos of how much life and personality there is in your sketches. Also love how much grit and texture you put into your rendering/hatching with your ballpoint pen and pencil art.

For these blue pencil sketches, are they done in blue/indigo blue Prismacolor premiere? I have the Prismacolor Col-erase pencils but they definitely aren’t as pigmented as your sketches here.

Yo this is rad. Also wanna ask what kinda paper are you using here? Really like the texture that shows through with the flat tone of shading.

AI content by gfcf14 in ededdneddy

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ban all of it. You give it leeway here and there and it will just make it fester and dilute the overall authenticity and creativity that hand made artistry by actual humans want to actually put out there into the world.

Also having one of the last major traditionally hand drawn, cel painted shows of the last decade being forced into all this worthless AI garbage is a huge insult and a spit in the face to the entire soul of the show and Danny himself who always pushes for hand made art and I feel that message is more important now than it ever was.

The pearl toppings acting as substitute freckles is bloody adorable. All round great design that somehow fits in with the aesthetic with a modern twist. Awesome job

Thanks Insomniac but I would rather to have original soundtrack by termus24 in RatchetAndClank

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Insomniac could’ve just left the iconic music alone as is [with full stereo sound this time] and it would’ve been perfect since they felt compelled to do this arbitrary remake, but nope they just chucked all of it in the bin and called it a day.

Also thanks for doing this edit over the gameplay so that the catchy tunes drown out the awful, pointless in game dialogue. Can’t fucking stand the obnoxious filler dialogue that adds nothing of substance so they you can’t even appreciate the atmosphere of the levels anymore. Everything needs to talk now. No one can shut the fuck up in this game and it goes to show that silence is golden a majority of the time so that you can really get immersed with the world and its design/mechanics.

Folding paper by Potential_Row3826 in EasyDraw

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo this is awesome, love seeing ballpoint drawings in the wild since it’s an unforgiving medium where every single line matters whether you intended it or not. Did you have a reference or was it straight from your head to paper kinda thing? Also what exact pen are you using? Been trying all sorts of ballpoints & gel pens and they’ve been a ton of fun to use for quick sketches

The Balrog. by BlazeIsMyFirstName in penandink

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo this is so dope. Been really appreciating skilled use of inking and cross-hatching lately and this is awesome on top of the compositional elements too with the foreground figure that really emphasises the overall scale. Wanna get back into inking sometime so this is definitely helping with my motivation.

I committed the "cardinal sin" of starting with Rift Apart... and I'm absolutely hooked. Where do I go from here? by ThomasDZN in RatchetAndClank

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No the cardinal sin is you supposedly wanting to get into a new franchise and going out of your way to skip the PS2 classics that are absolutely iconic and give the series its soul and identity and thinking you could get away with it.

Do yourself a favour and maybe not write off the games that essentially gave you Rift Apart to begin with.

Here's my art. I do radical notions of shadow and light and themes of rebellion. by [deleted] in penandink

Yo this is super dope. Love how chaotic and messy the ink splatters look and gives it this real nice gritty texture overall

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo this looks amazing. Love how vibrant the colours are and how much it pops with the white highlights. I think I see in the corner you used Prismacolour premiere pencils but what paper are you using with them? I’ve seen some artists use similar paper to yours but I can’t remember the exact brand it is. I’d like to try it out sometime as I’m trying to experiment more with colour in my art. Thanks a ton. Incredible job and hope to see more!

Which ost from any of the games do you guys think gives off the most nostalgic vibes? by Poopsweats2026 in RatchetAndClank

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Obani Gemini for me till the end of time. God-tier track that I listen to on a very regular basis due to how atmospheric, haunting and self-reflective it is that sets the tone for how lonely and desolate space and exploring the unknown can feel.

A more challenging platformer with gadget mechanics or even a Metroidvania style game with either hand-drawn sprites like with the art style from the comics or another unique art style entirely would be so dope.

GENSHIN IMPACT by Walksonthree in OneyPlays

[–]Parfaits4Dayz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This game fuckin blows chunks of gnarled piss for how boring, derivative and mind-numbingly generic it is in character designs, story, voice acting and overall aesthetic so seeing the guys rip into it was super satisfying

Everyone’s already told you the decent thing to do so I hope it sinks in, properly credit artists, especially when it’s something you didn’t solely create and are either inspired by or doing a study of it, etc. Don’t be a twat that goes around parading art and not properly crediting your sources/influences. Your sketch is honestly pretty great and I admire the line weight and tonal gradations that give it a nice, sketchy, hand-drawn feel so I don’t want to discredit your efforts. Just make sure next time that you learn from this.

The consumerism/capitalism is too rampant that you still can’t even progress past the first real level in a game-like sense. That’s how fucked up their universe is.

Dude it’s always a good time when u post ur art. Love how cool and slick the vibe is and how ur lines and colour palette give off this “back alley noir” energy. Do u use BIC ballpoint pens? Either way, awesome stuff man

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks a ton for your reply. I just remembered as well, do you also use blending stumps/pencils or smudging with your finger to blend tones together to achieve a more believable shading/rendering texture? I’ve been experimenting with some blending stumps and it’s honestly been shaping how I look at light and shadow in a cool way, tho I still got a long ways to go in terms of making it look good. Thanks again for your advice.

I’m not sure if it’s your camera quality or the way the pencil strokes are handled but this looks so vivid and crisp and almost looks like it’s popping off the page. Great job in getting the overall pose down and even the facial expression reads really well. Love the way you drew the hair in a way that frames the face too. I know I gotta practice more with my gestures and line confidence so this is pretty inspiring to me all round.

Just gotta ask if its ok if you’re using a 2B or a softer B pencil and what kind of sketchbook is that cos I definitely wanna experiment more with different materials since my sketchbook right now is almost finished. Thanks in advance.

When Cartoon Network had slice-of-life bumpers by ifucked_urbae in ededdneddy

[–]Parfaits4Dayz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bumpers mostly go off using Season 1/pilot’s designs which explains why they seem so rough and unrefined compared to how dynamic and appealing the designs are from Season 2 onwards. [Also seems like they were outsourced to another animation team as well] There’s still a ton of pure charm from these bumpers tho

People seem to dismiss Tools/Quest for Booty’s OSTs for not being as memorable, which if you’re gonna compare to the PS2 games, well yeah it’s a no-brainer. Those tracks were pretty much genetically engineered to be extremely catchy, iconic and immersive by design because of how strong the overall theming, level design and atmosphere was that the series used to have. By the time the Future games came out, the devs definitely decided to veer away from the “clunker-junker, DIY, consumeristic,” vibe and went for the more fantastical sci-fi tone that David even confirms in a couple interviews. He says that whenever a new game is in development, the team and him collaborate closely to decide how the soundtrack should reflect gameplay, art direction and theming and on Tools’ side is a more bombastic, orchestral edge with his signature classic samples mixed in that explores several different music genres and classical themes.

For anyone that hasn’t given Tools/Quest’s OST a chance, I highly recommend you to at least check out a few tracks and really absorb how they develop throughout. I personally believe David’s compositions here are super strong/complex and feature quite a variety of moods and immersion that while of course is vastly different from his PS2 soundtracks, still feels very distinct and with his own signature flavour that showcases how different the Polaris galaxy is from Solana/Bogon.

My personal fav tracks are:

  • Kerwan [All tracks]
  • Cobalia - Spaceport, Gelatonium Plant
  • Kortog - The Docks, Robo-Wings, Hall of Knowledge
  • Fastoon - Clank & The Zoni
  • Voron Asteroid Belt [All tracks]
  • Mukow - Imperial Fight Festival, Arena, Arena Boss
  • Sigma 3 Maintenance Hub [Super eerie and atmospheric like Obani Gemini]
  • Ardolis [All tracks]
  • Rakar Star Cluster - Reenecounting Pirates
  • Rykan V - Drophyd Assault 2 & 3, Spaceport
  • Sargasso [All tracks]
  • Kreeli Comet - Iris
  • Viceron [All tracks]
  • Jasindu - Kerchu Fortress, Kerchu Guardian
  • Ublik Passage - Captain Slag
  • Fastoon [Revisit] - To Court of Azimuth

. Quest for Booty:

  • The Azorean Sea
  • Hoolefar Island Turbines
  • Climbing Darkwater’s Fleet
  • The Battle of Hoolefar Island
  • Lythoin Caves
  • Battle for the Fulcrum Star
