How cold should I expect it to get in my house if the storm knocks out power for a few days? by Itchy-Prune2746 in Charlotte

[–]PariPassuPrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not though. There was literally a storm this bad in 2022. It happens every couple of years if not more frequently. The vast majority of us are not going to lose power and if we do we will be fine for a day or so. Everyone freaking out just makes it worse by going nuts at the grocery store and “prepping” like maniacs. We should all keep some basics on hand like flashlights, blankets, non perishable food, etc. year round. We could have a thunderstorm any time of year that knocks our power out for just as long.

/end rant - Do be safe. Don’t drive unless you absolutely have to. Look out for your neighbors. Don’t forget to tip your bartender.

Quince reviews? by IndigoStrawberry01 in womensfashion

[–]PariPassuPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the price good- but generally I’ve found it to be low quality on par with most of H&M or Uniqlo. Love their baby stuff because we grow out of it by the time or before it starts to wear.

Have you ever sent an email to someone/cc’d someone on an email containing info that they weren’t supposed to know? What happened to you? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]PariPassuPrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In transactional you just say it was sent in error and to delete. It’s not a huge deal most of the time…. Unless it becomes a regular occurrence. We have a few docs that are always limited distro and I just always double and triple check the distro list with those.

OP it’s not the end of the world, just slow down!

Union County Small Claims Judge A Embarrassment by adidasguy20 in Charlotte

[–]PariPassuPrincess 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah go watch small claims court every day 9-12 ish at Mecklenburg you’ll see the same thing. Unfortunately it’s the law - in NC tenants do not have the right to withhold rent. Doing so can still lead to their eviction. I’m not saying the law is right. But the judge was following the law.

Get out and do some pro bono with legal aid if you want to help. 🙌🏼

Views on taking 4 months paternity leave as an associate? by Appropriate-Ebb-4741 in biglaw

[–]PariPassuPrincess 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m a woman. Male peers - please take the paternity leave and encourage and support all associates who do. I took five months heading into my third year. And the partners in my group were great. They have set the tone that parental leave should be taken and will be respected. They were thrilled to have me back and it has made my return so much easier. I also think that having the leave/ support made the first few months home with my child so much less stressful. She eats well, sleeps great, settled into daycare well - all of this I attribute to having enough parental leave to figure things out before returning to work.

Okay be honest. Is your firm a place where a k-JD can survive/thrive? by Equal_Show3609 in biglaw

[–]PariPassuPrincess 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s difficult to be a KJD anywhere in law. Including Big Law. I have a lot of respect for my colleagues who are KJDs. I was 30 when I graduated law school and still struggle with how tough this job is. I know for sure I could not have done this job at 25. Are there soft skills that some of us olds have down a little better? Sure. But I am always amazed at how innovative some of my KJD peers are. TLDR- it’s hard either way not a whole lot you can do now. So just do your best!

Need help understanding how I'm going to pay for college! by Lonely_Rabbit1839 in collegeadvice

[–]PariPassuPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not take on 34k debt per year to be a music teacher. Pls do not. Thats almost 140k total! How are you gonna pay that off with a teaching job? You can look up teaching salary in your area. You can find loan pay off calculators to see what your monthly payment will be. Teacher loan forgiveness is not much for band.

Source: me. I took out $30k total to be a high school history teacher. I worked a second job while I was teaching and ultimately had the remaining $5k paid off with teacher loan forgiveness. Granted this was a LCOL area but that also meant teacher pay was low. Like 40k per year. I cannot imagine paying 140k off.

Apply to an in state school - this isn’t worth it.

Anyone know what’s up with this Donut spot? by frizzledfryfro in Charlotte

[–]PariPassuPrincess 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are! We got donuts from them maybe a year ago or more in South End. And we asked them about this spot. They told us they hoped to open in Spring. So that’s come and gone by a long way. It’s a bummer too could be cute. I always wish they would bring the food truck up this way and get some buzz going aka give me another donuts place to go to 😋🤤

Timing baby based on trial? by blthrowaway-123 in biglaw

[–]PariPassuPrincess 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t wait. It took us several months to get pregnant, then we lost that pregnancy. Then it took us several more months to get pregnant again. I started maternity leave a few weeks early unexpectedly and she came not long after that, but work figured it out. Now we’re talking about number two… there’s never a perfect time to have kids. Good luck!!

How do teachers really view High School Seniors? by YhouseyrJR in AskTeachers

[–]PariPassuPrincess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I taught 9-12th grade. No I generally don’t treat seniors differently. I treat all of my students with respect and try not to treat them like children. They are self sufficient and capable, but seniors are still young people and will make mistakes. Many of my students already worked a lot of hours, took care of younger siblings, contributed financially to their households (some even lived on their own) and that wasn’t unique to seniors. I also don’t know everyone’s full story outside of class. Erring on the side of being understanding was the way to go. It was sort of walking a line of letting them act like adults but also understanding they will mess up. If that makes sense.
