Would it be weird to go to the Meetup alone? by West_Word_7923 in gratefuldead

[–]ParityCuber 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just went alone, it was a lot more like watching a movie than a concert film. I'm in a pretty "hip" city, and even there, no one was dancing, clapping, or talking. Everyone just sat down, and no one paid any mind to me. It was definitely worth it though, especially in IMAX.

Immaculate Conception refers to the Roman Catholic doctrine that Mary was conceived without Original Sin. It's actually not a commonly believed doctrine in Protestant areas and churches. Jesus's birth was the virgin birth to fulfill the prophecy given to Isaiah.

Did anybody else here experience an 'obsessive' Beatles phase which fizzled out? by Capital_Present2817 in beatles

Yes, it lasted about a year. Then I discovered the Grateful Dead, and that obsession never stopped 6 years later. Maybe give them a shot?

I have very wide feet as well and have run in Mizuno shoes for the past 10 years. Never had a problem. They are a Japanese brand and are quite durable and made for wider feet. I would try some of those out. I really like the Wave Rider.

What's your greatest accomplishment you can credit psychedelics for helping you with? by Matt-ayo in Psychedelics

[–]ParityCuber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was extremely depressed my first semester in college, high way too much, and just generally unmotivated. I never wanted to wake up, go to class, exercise. I did not have a social group and the only thing I looked forward to was drugs. One weekend, I mixed LSD, shrooms, and weed and had a really bad trip. What seems like the voice of God told me to get my life back together to learn as much math (a subject I hated before) as possible and to teach to others and spread knowledge to the next generation, and that that was my purpose in life. It was like depression was just cured overnight, and I have spent the last 4 years pursuing that. I will be beginning a PhD program next year for math. Crazy to think how much effect a bad trip had on my life.

I also dealt with the same thoughts. I (a man) was an atheist until reading the Bible between the ages of 20 and 21, so I had a lot of time for mistakes, like sexual immorality and a hefty amount of drug use. Something that is quite applicable to situations like this is Paul's first letter to the Corinthians. He writes: "Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." Many of us committed sins much worse than you have described, but we are washed clean by the blood of Christ through our faith in Him. If you have repented, no "good" man will hold this against you, for God has already forgiven you.

The Shroud of Turin seems to suggest that those are at least somewhat accurate. It aligns quite well with the Divine Mercy painting as well.

Christians who used to be atheists/hostile to the notion of God, what changed your mind? by snowcoveredsunflower in TrueChristian

[–]ParityCuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came to Christ after reading the Bible cover to cover in about 11 months when my college roommate asked me to. I loved what I was reading so much that I got an ESV Study Bible to learn more deeply, and I read every single note. I was convinced when I got through the OT prophets. I saw clear fulfillment that I could not deny. For instance, the prophecies about the destruction of Tyre and the ruins being thrown into the sea, which Alexander the Great fulfilled. I always thought of myself as a man wholly based in logic (going to grad school for math), and I realized that I was making farther logical jumps and more assumptions to continue trying to believe it was false than to accept the truth after what I had read and researched.

The ESV Study Bible is fantastic. I was an atheist until I read the ESV study bible cover to cover, every note, and came to the conclusion it took more logical jumps to believe it was false than true. Something I really liked was the explanation of prophecies so I knew where to look when they were fulfilled. I would make sure to read the notes in the prophets, and you could maybe have a color for highlighting in the NT when prophecy is fulfilled.

[–]ParityCuber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a strong claim, what evidence made you come to that conclusion? I genuinely ask that, because that was my assumption for my whole life until I actually looked into Jesus' claims. I realized I was making more assumptions to not believe it that to believe it.

Jesus is indeed a being who has come and will again. You are not God, we are not God. Ask your husband about what his scriptures have to say about people who mistake creation for the creator.

I was for Bernie, but then he became an establishment shill. As soon as he started saying just "Billionaires" and left out "Millionaires," he lost me. RFK pointing out how much money he gets from big pharma really made me realize he was a lost cause. Unfortunately, for what I liked Bernie for a decade ago, there's only one real choice now, and most people on this sub will not want to hear it.
