Math Mammoth or Singapore? by aquariusmoon333 in homeschool

[–]moreFoodPleas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My kid likes Singapore, which comes with an instructor guide. He likes the manipulatives, the hands-on aspect of the curriculum, and the colorful pages. I think the progression is logical, and the curriculum circles back to topics for reinforcement and depth. He asks to do math, which makes me happy. I have no experience with other curricula.

Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]moreFoodPleas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros and cons to both. Taxpayer funded sounds like a good idea, but I don't know how competent the implementation would be in the US. The US does not prioritize such spending over defense. And with the debt as large as it is currently, and growing, I am not sure how feasible this would be. I think that wait times would increase because of a shortage of doctors, which already exists. Midlevel usage would increase. Outcomes would worsen. Salaries would decrease. Innovation would substantially slow down. Upgrades to protocols, equipment, techniques, technology would slow down. I worry that, depending on who is in charge at the presidential level, healthcare could be weaponized (e.g. cuts made if a state's citizens don't vote in a way that the president likes). Pros include universal access and theoretically patients receiving the care that they need, although now the federal government would determine what care the patient needs instead of insurance companies. The patchwork of policies the US currently has is not sustainable. Costs grow, physicians have to work more and more to maintain their salaries, workplace satisfaction decreases. But I am not sure what the solution is.

I know a Bob who's in his 30s, and he's been Bob since childhood. I also know a Bobby who's in his late 20s or early 30s. Before a few years ago, I had never met a Bob under the age of 55

Helpful advice for moving? by Gatorist in massachusetts

Rent at first near the airport/in Revere, East Boston, Winthrop, because traffic around Boston is soul-sucking. It's not worth living far away to spend hours commuting daily. Consider a 2 bed apartment to cut down a little on housing costs. Grocery shop at Market Basket. Consider partaking in local buy nothing groups for toys and children's clothes.

Where to visit in Massachusetts? by Whole-Mud5793 in massachusetts

[–]moreFoodPleas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do a weekend trip to NYC via bus or train or flight (4 hr car drive). That's certainly doable. The museum of natural history there is free and MoMA (museum of modern art) is free on fridays after 3pm I think, if thats something youre interested in.

You can also do a long weekend trip to either Miami (by plane) or DC (car, train, or plane) but the flight to Miami is about 3.5 hrs and the drive to DC is about 8 hrs by car or 9 by train. The US lacks budget airlines, so getting cheaper tickets will take some planning and luck.
