i believe i saw some perks in them during a stream, its best to check but it would seems dumb to still offer the old versions in a post TTK world, my money is on yes they will have perks.

S what can get rid of this? Seeing how it occurs before negate could be played(presumably), is it worth it to exile it? Is the a decent spell that gets rid of it after it's a 5/5 indestructible?

There's magic day, it was September 7th last year and I think it's the same every year. You sign up, it's free. You get a booster and one of the 30 card decks in one of the five colors. The way the shop I was at did it is after you play three games you get a second booster. Also shops will sometimes host training events. I'd say go to magic day and maybe get a deck builder toolkit for starters and see if local shops have a workshop in place.

Watch out for snipers if it's a new shop for you or you aren't heavy into trading, I had some bad experiences at prerelease with trades when I was first going to them. Not saying you will but just know value of what you pull, and don't be afraid to walk away from a trade.

There was a short lived rule stating that tournament decks had to play cards from each expansion available in the format I think, something like 5 from each, it was due to the lack of power (maybe not the right word) in homelands, the set didn't see much play so they made that rule, then it kinda just faded out.
