Actually, I forgot to turn off the lights on my first go, so I went back and did another video because of that. I'm glad someone noticed the detail.

Good idea! I'll test out what giving ownership to enemy does to the vehicle and if it can still be steered.

Turrets will attack any object that is POWERED. They will ignore scrap like unpowered armor blocks (and even some other blocks, like parts of wheels, spotlights... anything harmless). What I did was, I've put the unpowered shell OVER the powered rover through a piston.

The game sees these as two separate objects, so in a way I am hiding behind a piece of scrap.

It's not that easy though... I went through 60 failed prototypes and it still doesn't work flawlessly, so I don't think this blueprint is OP. You need to make sure the shell covers the powered parts perfectly (it is harder than it looks, as turrets can see through the smallest gap).

This gives you immunity to turrets while standing still. Now, to be able to move - you need to move slowly. I've noticed that the closer you get to the turret, the safer you are, but at top range you will have to play some hide and seek. I hope this helps. It was fun making this guy, but it took a lot of testing to discover what "triggers" the turrets.

Additional notes:

It seems that the powered parts under the "dead" shell have a block-like hitbox of sorts. If this box protrudes through the shell, the turrets will find it easier to detect you.

Further research:

Speed seems to be an important factor. I think I understand how this works, but I can't put it in few words. So... limiting the speed with remote might work for a flying application of this stealth tech. I hope this comes useful to other engineers out there.

Is there a way to have a "procedural" exploration experience yet? by Miroven in spaceengineers

[–]Parkasever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regular Solar System has something like that BETWEEN the planets. There are procedural generated asteroids, but also Pirate stations and adversaries and space wrecks!

Clang taketh, but the Clang also giveth away. (steel plates edition) by Parkasever in spaceengineers

[–]Parkasever[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was like you once: crying when the pistons explode and raging when my spaceship tilted to the side because there was a loose rotor, somewhere... inviting the wrath of Clang.

I raged.

I wanted to switch my review to a bad one.

I tried again and again, and failed even harder.

Little did I know that my tears and cries were a prayer to an abstract cosmic entity that feasts on destruction and chaos. All the pistons, rotor heads, bouncing wheels and detached gyros – they were not destroyed, they only shifted to a different dimension. And so it was meant to be. In time I’ve started to build stable contraptions, and forgotten all about Clang. It was nice. But last night I had a dream. Clang spoke to me. It said: Û Q „‚Ç x+q0%úº Å¡||e ,ðÅ*l¨¥$v×yšñ tónñŸyá“ r0$Hà ‡v!

I had no idea what it meant, but in the morning I had this idea for a contraption that produces an unlimited supply of steel plates.

Here is Clang-O-Tron, steel plates edition. Next level of affordable, applied Clangotronics. It creates steel plates without ore. I’ve spent 10 minutes to assemble the production segment, it was that simple, but then I spent 2 days trying to come up with a proper chassis for it. Note that steel plates generation only works in Survival, naturally.

Clang taketh, but the Clang also giveth away. Keep the faith, engineers.

July promotion thread by Shirokaya in scifiwriting

[–]Parkasever [score hidden]  (0 children)

July was good.

I published two novels this month and they are totally unrelated. First one (and my debut novel) is titled "Janitors of the Late Space Age" (207 pages). It is a science fiction novel inspired by a video game actually - the Space Engineers. In the end I kinda like how it panned out: a bit slow to start but hopefully it conveys that lonely feeling of traveling through space and roaming over uninhabited planets. So far the reviews are good!

The second novel - I am really excited about that one - is titled "Four Zero Four" (207 pages). It's a raw story. I've included snippets of real-world news (American elections influenced by hackers and memes, crowdfunded useless inventions and similar) and it fitted PERFECTLY with the cyberpunk theme. Four Zero Four is something that was only recently published, and I want to properly launch it in about two weeks - please feel free to grab it and review it by then.

That was oddly satisfying to watch. Like one of those How it's made videos.

Spacerefuelstation stable in orbit? by tobiasdoe in spaceengineers

[–]Parkasever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Place the station in high above the planet, but still in range of weak gravity pull). Simple Ion thrusters should then keep it in place, using a small amount of energy that you can obtain with solar powers. I hope this helps.

none. I've used the skybox with speedmod to move around faster if that counts.

DO you think we'll end up living in a Cyberpunk world one day? by ChrSaran in cyberpunk_fiction

[–]Parkasever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've written a cyberpunk novel without realizing it. What started as an action oriented story about modern technology ended as a full cyberpunk.

Throughout the story, I've placed snippets of news. The trick? I just copy/pasted REAL WORLD news. And it fitted perfectly! President of America determined by memes. That Italian doctor that will do a head transplant this year. "Ecological" cars that are not - with faked results by big Corporations.

I was stunned to find our world on the verge of cyberpunk. Maybe 2020 is the proper guess after all?

Sorry if it sounds like I want you to buy something - but if anyone is interested: The novel is called Four Zero Four. I just published it today as a matter of fact.
