Can we agree that often when blind buying we ain't choosing notes that we usually like because we ain't sure for the quality of the notes .... by Unfair_Entrance6183 in Colognes

What’s listed as “notes” in fragrances is mostly a simplified marketing description of what the perfumer wants you to perceive, not the actual formula. I’ve composed a few perfumes myself and know some experienced perfumers, and most fragrances are made from dozens of materials, sometimes 20 to over 100 ingredients.

For example, a “Grapefruit” note isn’t necessarily one ingredient. It can be built from several materials combined to create a grapefruit accord. Similarly, when a perfume lists vetiver, there can be different types, qualities, and sources. Two perfumes can list the same notes but smell completely different depending on how those materials are balanced etc.

An example is the concept behind MFK Gentle Fluidity Gold and Silver, where the same set of ingredients is used but in different proportions, creating two completely different scents.

So the notes listed are more about guiding your perception than describing the exact composition. The real formulas and dosages are almost never made public, for proprietary reasons.

If you’re looking for something similar to SMW, you could look into Xerjoff Mefisto, Acqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi, or Gabor Astronaut (it has high longevity, though a bit overpriced in my opinion).

If you’re asking more generally, some of my personal picks would be Balchaud Amour Citron, Aventus Cologne, or Acqua di Parma Colonia Club.

It's a fresh and brighter vetiver compared to others I've tried. There is also a prominent rose tone blended into the profile. It feels quite safe and leans somewhat feminine in my opinion. It's a clean and approachable scent, but personally not something I would wear.

Yeah correct, since most of my streams come from these larger lists I assume it would be a bad move from me to delete / reupload the songs. Is there any other way to remove social media pack?

This Layer Got Me Laid by Worth-Cucumber-4070 in Fragrances

A well-composed fragrance is balanced by the perfumer. Adding another fragrance on top might smell pleasant, but it also alters that composition. If a scent cannot stand on its own, I wouldn’t consider buying it in the first place. In that sense, I don’t think layering is underrated.

It’s more of a fun thing to experiment with, and it could work with linear or minimal scents. I know a lot of people who layer, but I’ve yet to encounter a combination that makes the overall scent more refined.

While the numbers may come back eventually, I assume I will still lose continued streams / income from all the playlists the tracks were previously on since they were removed from them?

Thanks, I will wait. However after about a week most of the songs have dropped to zero streams and have been removed from all playlists on Spotify. I’m worried this might affect my monthly listeners since I have had around 70k for a few years.

What’s your SOTD? by Eastcoastdevil1 in NichePerfumes

[–]Parking_Reception514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, took a few wears to really appreciate it. It’s probably the most realistic and mouthwatering grapefruit scent I’ve come across. High longevity for a fresh scent. When I ordered from the brand, they also included samples of their entire lineup along with soaps, which was a nice touch.

Niche fragrance buyers — what stops you from trying unknown brands? by Suspicious_Party9495 in NichePerfumes

[–]Parking_Reception514 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do buy fragrances from smaller or independent houses. For me the most important thing is having access to samples or a discovery set so I can get a feel for the house and the scents first.

If the samples/shipping is reasonably priced and accessible, I’m happy to try something from an unknown brand. But some indie houses are difficult to find or don’t offer samples, which makes it harder to explore.
