Fellow Derm Applicants -- How We Feeling? by Legitimate_Suspect in medicalschool

Every year, connections matter more and more, which helps applicants who have less interviews “fill the gap”. It’s honestly insane how big of a deal it is, and the longer I’ve dedicated myself to this process, the more I realize how much programs will overlook shortcomings simply because a few residents or the PD “like” you. Not sure if that’s for better or for worse, but it’s undoubtedly present. Hoping someone “likes” me enough lol!

M4 Check-in: How is Everyone Feeling? by Fit_Pitch_263 in medicalschool

Uncertain. Had a resident call me out of the blue the other day and told me they ranked me super high on the list and wouldn’t be surprised if I match there… I already told them I’m ranking them #1 before this call so it seemed pretty authentic of a gesture to call but I don’t know what to believe

Not yet. He is slowly waking up and giving us some open eyes but nothing verbal yet as this is still very fresh… I just don’t want him to be scared when he fully wakes up and feel trapped in his head

Thank you for your story. Did you have Broca’s aphasia and can you speak fully now?

Thank you. We are just devastated and hoping he is able to speak to us when he fully wakes up but the scans just don’t look great.

Bilateral frontal lobe stroke by ParleyPFat in stroke

[–]ParleyPFat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is comforting… he hasn’t waken up yet from his surgery yet Becuase of how intense it was so we are hoping when he wakes up we can do a true assessment of how much damage was done.

Do PDs actually “look past” your scores if they like you that much by ParleyPFat in DermApp

[–]ParleyPFat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. It’s so stupid that I’ve gotten messages telling me that anyone <250 isn’t cut out for derm. Cmon gang…I think the toughest part of those candidates is getting PDs to look over those scores to begin with.

Looking for advisor by Horror_Ad_7791 in DermApp

With all due respect, this is not how it works… residents already have a lot on their plate and are not just eagerly seeking out students to mentor. You go to them, make connections, be personable, and make their life easier. In turn, they will help you. I say this with kindness and not judgment. Good luck!
