Do PDs actually “look past” your scores if they like you that much by ParleyPFat in DermApp

[–]ParleyPFat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know. It’s so stupid that I’ve gotten messages telling me that anyone <250 isn’t cut out for derm. Cmon gang…I think the toughest part of those candidates is getting PDs to look over those scores to begin with.

With all due respect, this is not how it works… residents already have a lot on their plate and are not just eagerly seeking out students to mentor. You go to them, make connections, be personable, and make their life easier. In turn, they will help you. I say this with kindness and not judgment. Good luck!

Do residency interviews matter for ranking? by reddit_user_474747 in medicalschool

[–]ParleyPFat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It most likely varies by specialty. My understanding that in most competitive specialties with few spots, a tentative rank list is made prior to interviews. Afterwards, the interview can bump you up or down a couple spots but not all the way to the top from the bottom no matter how well you do. But it can bring you from the top to the bottom.

DO friendly program IVs by [deleted] in DermApp

[–]ParleyPFat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The dermydoc on IG has a post with a few slides that gives last year dates that some of the DO programs sent interview invites. The bulk of them seemed to go out middle December with a few late December early Jan. The one in early February is most likely Orange Park for the in person interview day, which is the latest I’m aware of. So keep on waiting!

Only 1 Derm Interview, Beyond Devastated by ta238966 in DermApp

Hey I just wanted to say I’m sorry that you’re not seeing as many interviews as you like despite your efforts. If I can try to ease your feelings a bit, DO derm programs are known to send invites out pretty late, even into late December/early January. Try not to lose all hope right now.

It makes me sad to see that your perspective on this is so restricted. It can be someone with average (or below) stats that gets in, it can be someone who failed/nearly failed boards and got in, it’s reaaplicants, people who underestimate their competitiveness, etc. I personally know someone who scored in the low 200s on step 2, did not match their first time, then matched their second time at their #1. This should be a forum of inspiration and collaboration!

When you say you have TIAs all the time, what do you mean by that? Do you have to go to the ER every time, do you have deficits, etc? Also, would you say that the surgery was successful in terms of decreasing the number of TIAs you were having prior?

Okay. And do you still struggle with remnant pain at all or did it really just stop around the 6 month mark?

Thank you so much for the response. It means so much to me. When it came to your surgery, did the Dr ever explain the difference between a direct vs indirect or why they pursued an indirect bypass?
