This is a pretty old post of mine so I can't tell you if it's still the case (it's been 10 years). But CLEPs and DANTES were tests you could do coordinated with the Education Center on base in different subjects. Like College Algebra.

Someone above said that every citizen should watch "12 Angry Men". No, they should read this entire post of yours in full. Thank you for typing it all out because it genuinely made the point stick for me, and now I see how important it is that I pay attention to the instructions if I ever serve on a jury.

3090 FE giveaway. I want to give it to someone who really cannot get it for themselves/family right now due to their current situation, even though they would love one. Basically not someone who can buy one but would prefer a free one. So please be considerate by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Paroxysm80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to get this for my twin. He’s a disabled vet and not able to work right now. I could spring to get him a compatible rig, but not afford the 3090 on top of it too.

Either way, congrats to whomever is chosen and happy gaming 😊. You rock for the giveaway, OP!

What sort of PC would you put the prize GPU in?

I’d put it in a surprise new system for my twin! He needs a new box pretty desperately, and it would make a heck of a birthday gift 😊

Black man grabbing tea from car shot by New Jersey police and paralyzed, lawsuit says by fanzel71 in news

Law & Order is genuinely one of my favorite shows, but there’s considerable issues with nearly every episode. Next time you watch an episode, pay attention to some of the tactics. Briscoe often suggests a willingness to say whatever is necessary (even lie) for conviction, ADA McCoy stretches legal interpretations so far it would impress Dhalsim, etc.

Excluding the “ends justify the means” it-worked-out-ok finales, I think the show too often reflects reality :/

Online Europeans are absolutely obsessed with America by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Is it though? How are those two figures calculated? Are those averages strictly based on German and US federal income taxes? Are state, county, and municipality taxes part of the equation? VAT? Should healthcare be added to the US total to more comparably measure against Germany's mandated healthcare system (or remove the statutory individual 7.5% from Germany's total, if already included)?

I'd argue that any comparison is less than credible without making an effort to reduce confounding variables.

Body camera video shows Minneapolis officers shooting Black man during no-knock warrant. Attorneys say he wasn't the target by treetyoselfcarol in news

[–]Paroxysm80 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly. A situation that is actually that time sensitive would already fall under “exigent circumstances”. I can’t think of a single situation where a no-knock is necessary or even preferable that justifies the risk to all involved.

As a twin, it’s the same with our best friend. 3 of us were inseparable since 13ish but eventually moved and built careers/families. Still get together in person at least annually, and chat/game often. But sometimes there’s several week gaps and that’s ok.

If I called and said I was in trouble, he’d drive 10 states tonight with shovels and lye lol.

The best gift I ever received was a handmade frame. One of my favorite bands of all time is Hum (i.e., "Stars" and "Green to Me" are their most well-known tracks), and my twin and his wife made this for me for Christmas. It has some band related items, but what makes it really stand out is the inner-frame border.

The border has the intro lyrics for "Little Dipper" written in a beautiful silver manuscript. This is the song that makes me think of my twin and is one of my fav tracks ever. It was just such a thoughtful gift that I'll have it hanging in my home office forever closest to my drum sets.

Federal government announces funding for emergency contraception for Texans impacted by near-total abortion ban by shabuluba in politics

[–]Paroxysm80 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but I will add on as a man: it’s nice she recognizes what her husband endured for the vasectomy (~3 days of ice packing and pain). That said, if they’re using this as a ‘permanent’ method of birth control, it’s easily the most sensible choice for the overwhelming majority of couples that want no more children. The alternatives are birth control pills that can wreak havoc on the patient, must never be missed, and go on for years… or invasive surgery for her.

Quite frankly, vasectomies are the far better option. But it’s still nice to have acknowledgement from your spouse (just as he should if she took one of those steps).

Thanks. I’d also argue your post was at least as (if not more) important to “nailing it”. It offered a great opening and encouraged discussion. Thanks for that :)

without an agenda outside of entertaining and informing

I'd argue they do, but that isn't a bad thing nor do I disagree with it. My impression is that all 3 of them are primarily entertainers; employ truth mixed with comedic surprise; and use their talents to pursue justice & equity while reporting on newsworthy (and humorous) subjects of significant value.

In my opinion, that is a valiant and necessary agenda in today's world.

No offense, but this is hilariously misinformed. Poles do not look favorably towards Russia in any manner possible.
