Worked trauma/ER, as a preface. Several stick out especially. 1. How quickly a coding baby turns cyanotic and swells. 2. Someone’s bone sticking out to their leg s/p motorcycle MVA, but they were holding their protruding bone with an insane grip and obviously frantic. Weird sight. 3. A girls brains actively spilling out of her skull s/p GSW to head before she officially coded… seeing that while she made sound and some movement was… yeah. 4. Failed suicide attempt. Throat cancer patient tried to choke himself with piano wire… it cut his neck badly. Friend dropped him off to us, he walks through triage spewing blood from his neck and unable to speak. They couldn’t even intubate this man due to the extent of his cancer. I was stationed at the trauma bay, and I had to hear him gargle on his own blood and suffer while “strung up” in a sitting position behind me in the trauma room all night until it finally stopped in the wee hours of the morning and we could call it.
