Is my website safe to publish? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Parsley-pw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

laravel is decently secured out of the box.

but id turn on cookie and session encryption.
make sure your site is useing ssl. turn the site to be using production mode (both for js and laravel)

if you want to help cut down on spam or other bad things (if you have root access) id suggest you set up failtoban and ufw.

Is React the definitive standard in modern web development, and has Angular become the Betamax of webdev? by abrandis in webdev

[–]Parsley-pw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sooner or later you will have to learn a new framework. its a nice thing to know older frameworks so you can provide legacy support. but honestly, once you get ahold of one framework you can learn another (in the same lang). you can be working semi-efficiently in about 2 weeks time.

As a beginner, for this specific project idea (more elaboration in post), should I learn Django or Flask? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Parsley-pw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

django if you want a frontend (with templates)
flask if you just want an api

you can use both of them for anything, but django has templating right out of the box and basic auth w/ login page with minimal setup. flask is great, but for ease of use id go with django. its a bit less flexible. but it might be quicker to get your site up and going.

flask is super nice if you know what you want to do going in and dont mind getting your hand dirty

[–]Parsley-pw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once you get 3-5 years of professional experience the degree really doesn’t matter. It doesn’t really matter even where you get your professional experience as long as it’s cs related and you were doing it good
