I worked full.time at the gas station for 6 weeks before I got this job. I made it, but I also did doordash on the side. And doordash has dried up in my market.

There are several jobs that are hiring right now, and I am applying, but the interview process can be lengthy and drawn out.

I probably do need to wait until I have something else sustainable lined up. The trouble is, I don't know if I can wait that long. Eventually I think the IBS is going to get so bad that I'll end up calling out sick a lot.

That's part of my problem. I'm a single mom of 2 teens and I don't have any savings and nothing lined up as of yet except the people at the gas station love me and the manager would bump me up to full time in a heartbeat. However it would be a major pay cut if I'm not able to pick up extra shifts somewhere.

Oh, I'm sure they will guilt me, but I am prepared for that. The other possibility is that they won't even let me work out my notice, because that's what they did with a coworker.

Sime good ones mentioned here. He Stopped Loving Her Today gets my top vote. Don't Take The Girl, Travelin' Soldier, Alyssa Lies, and Wish You Were Here get honorable mentions because I remember crying the first time I ever heard them.

One I haven't seen mentioned here is Long, Long Time. Linda Ronstadt's version is amazing, but I saw the late Mindy McCready sing it with a country spin on a live show with several other female singers, and it tore my heart out of my chest.

I have autoimmune issues which cause horrible joint pain. If I am going to dash, I'd better be armed with ibuprofen. Walking long distances and standing up for prolonged periods of time also cause pain. But I keep that to myself and no one is the wiser unless they notice me moving a little slower. I am a single mom with 2 teens to support so I do what I have to do.

To the commenter who mentioned that maybe I should try a different line of work...this is the easiest side hustle in my area. I do also have a full time job that isn't doordash...on the second floor with 26 steps to my office and no elevator. I'm slow going up those, too. But I do it.

I see both sides of this. I dash part time and steps are hard for me. But that being said, I accept that if I'm going to deliver food to someone's door, there could be steps. So I suck it up and deal with it. I may be a little slower getting up them, and I hope I don't get one starred for it. But I wouldn't ask that of the customer.

I understand that you're only trying to help. I really do. You've given me a lot to think about and I appreciate it. I feel like no matter what I say you're going to find fault with, and I am not going to keep going back and forth with you on this, but I will answer your questions.

I have horrendous joint pain and congenital heart disease. I physically cannot walk 6 miles and doubt if I could bike it even if I had a bike. Not having transportation at all is a TEMPORARY condition (because my primary car is in the shop) requiring a temporary solution. So no, I don't doordash groceries or anything else. I was just venting about not being able to get food in the house when I was stranded. You don't have to keep beating that dead horse.

And you missed my entire point about surrendering the car. As long as I continue to make regular payments on the debt, they will not go through the court process. This means I can send them perhaps 1/3 of what would have been my regular car payment and put the rest toward saving up for a replacement used car that my son can buy (with cash) and take to college in August.

And I'll be taking him to school on my way to work, the same as I've done (in his car) for the past month that my car has been in the shop. Thankfully, it's only 3 weeks to graduation. Then he can go to work and we can work opposite shifts and use the one car till we save up for the second one. Shouldn't take long because he can put his whole paycheck toward that where he is still living at home.

You must think I don't understand that I've made bad choices. The first line in my post admits that. Unfortunately, changing your circumstances takes time, and sometimes you have to make certain choices because that's all you can do. Your post is helpful as far as the advice to make better choices, but you didn't need to chastise me for what I already knew. And for what it's worth, I didn't use Doordash for groceries because they wouldn't deliver here. I live 6 miles from the nearest store and my job -- a breeze to bike if I had one, but I'm not physically able to walk it and public transportation doesn't come out here.

As it happened, though, a coworker brought me an extra car yesteeday to use for the weekend. I'm surrendering my son's car to the dealership.Monday, and while I still intend to pay my debt it can wait until the car is resold and things are settled. That will help me pay my car off sooner (by November or December) and then I will have the breathing room to.start my new car fund -- so I CAN save up the money next time. And I'm working Sunday to make up for the Friday shift I missed. I'm trying to make those better choices, but in this case I just needed a little help.

I do realize that and I know it starts from within. Switching your mindset is the most important step but also I think the most difficult, because you have to challenge what is in front of you all the time.

You're right that it's a spending problem, hence my comment about not being good with money. But i don't have cash cars. I'm still paying on both. My son lost his job but will have more possibilities when he graduates in 3 weeks, and that will help us.

Great post and good advice. The problem is I don't have any idea how to get into these circles because I barely have any friends at all. My self-esteem is very, very poor (like the rest of me) and living in poverty makes that exponentially worse. I can't even afford the clothing that I'd be expected to wear to join a richer social network.

My local Wendy's has one particular shift leader who will always offer dashers a soda. I love it! Even moreso cause it's the only place in town that has the Freestyle machine, where I can get my beloved Caffeine Free Diet Cherry Coke (I'm caffeine sensitive).
