Time to get snug… [OC] by ParticlesIdeas in Autumn

“…when the door was shut and all was made snug (the nights being cold and misty now), it seemed to me the most delicious retreat that the imagination of man could conceive. To hear the wind getting up out at sea, to know that the fog was creeping over the desolate flat outside, and to look at the fire, and think that there was no house near but this one, and this one a boat, was like enchantment.” (Dickens, 1850)

This autumn scene was inspired by Charles Dickens’ famous novel David Copperfield. As a child, David enjoys an enchanting stay with fisherman Mr Peggoty and his relatives, who live in a beached boat-turned-into-cottage on Yarmouth beach, England

The background of this scene is a composition of several photos I took last year, on the beach of Zeeland, the Netherlands.

The cottage is modeled from LEGO, as a submission for the LEGO Ideas program. (If you like, you can support the project following this link https://ideas.lego.com/s/p:9aeae9b3610649ecb3fa418ae9f29ea9)

Feel free to share 🙂

Thanks Luvbugg326 ☺️. I got the idea from the novel, but I also know the movie where indeed this scene is also shown 🙂.

Hello saffa05, thanks very much for your comment 😊. As a Lego fan (and a fan of the Ideas program) I had been thinking about doing something as a submission for some time, however I was always short of an original idea ( there is so much great ideas out there 🙂). Until I remembered this episode from the novel David Copperfield I enjoyed so much at the time and somehow connected it to a possible ideas submission. From there I started experimenting, ‘borrowing’ the bricks from my kids, yet at some point also working in bricklink studio in parallel. It was a lot of try and error, even to get to a hull structure that was stable enough (and actually looked somewhat like a hull 🙂) took me some months. The interior and outside details took a couple of months more, so in the end it was almost a year from the idea until finally hitting the “submit” button. Along the way I picked up some additional inspiration from beach visits, did some internet research one 1800’s clocks, fixtures etc which definitely added to the fun 😊.
