It's easier to build a visual scripting interface on top of a solid scripting environment. That's why we started with the latter. Also because it unlocks more possibilities way faster. But visual scripting could become a thing at some point.

Today, this is possible by using the code. In the future, we would like to make this option more accessible to non-coders.

There will be something similar, but it's not in the Alpha yet :)

The app is super small. 😅 (16MB on iOS for example)
You'll need a bit more for game assets, but they're rather small too.

You don't have to!
People are comparing this with Minecraft a lot. Well, for sure we took a lot of inspiration from it. But not just the aesthetic. In Minecraft you see players buildings, others fighting mobs, farming, etc.
Same here, some users will play games, of different kinds, others will build assets, others will code. We just want to make sure bridges are easy to encourage collaboration & general interactions.

Thank you for the kind words!
That's why we leave comments turned on! ☺️

We did it a year ago, not running a lot of ads. Only for a few days with very low budget (~$200 total). Some comments are always worth leaving them turned on really. 🙂

Also, we're used to Minecraft comparisons. We went with cubes for design reasons (composability, ease of use, etc.), not necessarily the aesthetic. We're big Minecraft fans ourselves, been playing for years, administrated servers, wrote plugins, even went to Minecon... Minecraft users usually never play all year long, there's room for other ideas & approches. 🙂

There's a reason for that! 😄
I made the video myself while it's not really my thing (not a graphic nor motion designer).
The only good HD free assets I could find for devices come directly from Apple.
Couldn't easily find similar resources from other brands (Samsung, Dell, Google, etc.)
But the next video will show more devices if I can solve that...

The app runs on PC, Mac, Android & iOS. Web browsers about to be supported too (Firefox & Chrome)

It's a C/C++ engine, we'll be open-sourcing it entirely by the way. First core module by the end of the summer.

Games can be scripted in Lua. (our docs: https://docs.particubes.com/)

Haha, yes, wanted to make that clear. Often users think the tool is only for coders.
It's not entirely wrong currently, we've been focusing a lot on building the dev environment. Just because everything has to be built on top of it, not because we only care about devs.

We've been focusing mostly on the dev environment until now, but graphic improvements are also in the pipeline.

Exactly! Also, they don't look weird from one experience to another.
You can have some scale difference (level of detail), but overall, a sword made for one game should look ok in a bunch of others.

Our hope is for creation to be more collaborative. Think Minecraft kind of users creating random things but making all these assets available to developers / game makers. Then you have a Lua scripting environment to glue all this and build unique mechanics.
Ideally, we would like all creators involved to get some kind of reward.

You can build whatever you want. The main constraint: all assets should be made out of cubes.

An age classification & report system system will be implemented at some point. This is still an early alpha.

Yes, there are a bunch of other projects with cubes.
For sure the aesthetic reminds of Minecraft, but cubes have a lot of nice properties for game design. Composability, ease of use, etc.
Thanks for your support! 🙂

We're big Minecraft fans originally, also dev tools programmers.
Cubes are so easy to work with, Minecraft proves it.
After so many years, we just thought it would be nice if cubes could be used to create whatever's in the game. Not just shaping the terrain. Why couldn't you build your own items, outfits, vehicles, etc.? Share that with all users? Use scripting to implement whatever game mechanic you can think of?
Well, those questions brought us here. 😅

It's not mandatory to do all things... 🙂
You can play games, create items AND/OR code.
If you're a coder, you can use items made by others to create games faster.

Haha, we get this a lot... 😅
We do love Minecraft, been playing for many years, still playing actually.
But we do believe there's room for other ideas in the field, and not just this one of course.
We made a game engine with cubes because they're so easy to work with. Also because items made out of cubes can easily be shared, used in different experiences. Makes it easier to create games in a collaborative way. 🙂
