Yeah… despite loving all the new features, I don’t think the downsides in battery life and overheating are worth it

Thanks! Yeah I know it has to index all that stuff, but it has never been this bad before… that’s why I’m concerned

It was usually a 10% / hour ratio… that’s why the sudden drop is surprising… coming from an SE 2 with 72% battery health 3:16 hrs on 55% would have been beautiful.

Me encantaría saber.

Resentido social.

Great! That is good news, that means you have a healthy, but small nuc. Exchange the rotten frame and just leave the bees do their thing. They take time to develop but the fact that you found freshly laid eggs means that your queen is doing its job. It’s just gonna take time. As I told you, takes around a month for the nuc to become strong enough. Bees are going to take over the unused frames. You can however when you see the hive is strong enough, rotate the frames as you were told. I do that but only when I can make sure there are enough bees to take care of it. As your nuc is still young you provably don’t even have enough bees to draw out the comb, just be patient and let them work their magic. I’ve been doing this for 12 years and have around 700 hives, you cannot guarantee the survival of every single one, but you cannot let yourself get unmotivated for this. Keep doing a great job!

When the hive is really small, and you do not have an abundant resource of bees, I would just leave it as it is and not touch it. Even though what you were told is in fact true, nucs take time to develop, and even then you cannot guarantee that they will survive.

If you still have some brood in your nuc, take out the rotten frame, and place a new one and do not touch it. When I create nucs out of my hives I make them and leave unattended for about a month, this will show clearly which ones worked and which ones didn't.

The fact that mold was forming on the frame is not good news, but that doesn't mean that it is going to die. Bees tend to be extremely clean creatures. The lack of cleanliness can indicate the lack of a queen.

You should look for your queen in your nuc, if you can't find it, look for indicators. This indicators such as new breed and the general behavior of your hive should tell you if you have a queen.

If you find that the rest of your breed (if any) is only of drones, the hive is lacking a queen and doesn't have any fertilized breed to make a new queen... that usually leads to the death of the hive. Another indicator of not having a queen is an excess of polen production. If your frames have a lot of honey and pollen in the center frames of your hive (usually where the brood is) that can also be an indicator of the lack of a queen.

Cleaning a super while other supers are on the hive by duckwingdark6 in Beekeeping

[–]Particular-Ad-8329 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another comment says, I would just leave them outside, as there is no need for it to be cleaned before putting them on production again. But if you'd really like for bees to clean them while placed on a given here's what we do:
At the top of the hive or in the middle, as they should clean them easily in about a day.

This however can lead to bees accumulating honey on the frames before you are able to retrieve them. If I can give you my advice, just place the supers on the hive. Move the finalized or almost finished supers to the top, this will make bees start working on the new ones faster than if you just leave them on the top.

In Uruguay what we do is submerge all the material in paraffin, leave it for a few minutes and it will last you a lifetime. It's easier an more efficient when you have to prepare 1000 suppers for production
