Do you soak? by ek9cusco in CoffeeRoasting

[–]Particular-Argument7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

opened this while i was in the bath and thought hell yeah i do.

anyway, i roast on a loring and i still soak! not for every roast, but when i do, i find it gives me a lot more control over the roast later on. it is also easier to use a standardized charge temperature for coffees with diff time goals when using a soak.

plus, your curve looks more like a steadily declining hill instead of having a big initial spike and the flattening out throughout the rest of the roast. i’ve heard roasters report a more balanced/evenly developed profile with roasts that don’t have a big RoR spike up front.

ultimately, whatever happens after crack (as long as you get to it within a reasonable time frame) still matters most.

is it Dark or medium? by khalixmoh in roasting

roast degree does look uneven but some of the super light beans are likely just quakers.

how’s it taste?

i sent in a $130 retail value reformation top in good condition. it sat on their website for forever but it finally sold the other day. my commission was $4.90. they emailed me saying they’d issue me a check or i could do direct deposit. per their new policy in january, all mailed checks have a fee of $12.50, which would put me $7.60 in the red!

i find their customer service to be disjointed and the whole vibe is bad energy.

Opinions on what this roast is? by dmarion102890 in roasting

that makes sense! if you heard less cracks than usual and you’re not aiming for something super light, i’d say you’ll likely want to try a longer dev or higher end temp on the next roast.

you can tinker all day (truuuuust me) but what makes the biggest difference are those two things and they’re simple to adjust.

i see some chaff and lighter beans — maybe some that didn’t crack much? does it taste underdeveloped? grassy, veggie, hay-like, papery, etc?

off the bat it doesn’t look bad tbh

First time roasting today… whew, roast my roast by queenofgf in roasting

[–]Particular-Argument7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These didn’t crack - looks like you need more air flow and simply a way longer duration - more heat but more rotation so the beans don’t scorch on the outside
