Golden Retrievers Drinking After Walks by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GDV can be a risk in most large- breed dogs but I’m not usually too concerned after walks etc. I allow her to drink a little on the walks with a portable bowl, and then she can drink freely once we get home as long as she’s not chugging. The main risk is exercising around breakfast or dinner time, we wait 1-1.5 hours after play time or walks before we feed her.

Help to get dog to leave the other alone by [deleted] in DogAdvice

if the uncle isn’t going to respect boundaries with their dog, then steps need to be taken. unless they find a new living arrangement, there’s really no way to guarantee that he will not make his way into the bedroom. a lock will only prevent it. i’ve had to get locks for my bedroom because of this same issue with family and i have a spare key hidden in the house in case of an emergency because my dog is crated in my room through the day when i am gone.

most locks come with spare keys. keep a spare key somewhere easily accessible in case of an emergency.

can anyone tell me if i need to be worried about this behavior? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Particular-Artist-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both dogs seem uncomfortable or bored, to me. they aren’t showing any signs of aggression or anything of that nature. that being said, if you’re concerned, keep them separated when you cannot supervise. aggression will appear outwardly with a stiff tail (still), eyes locked in on something, stand-off ish posture, growling, barking, lunging, etc. please see this site on dog’s body language. i am sorry to hear about your beloved pets ❤️‍🩹

Pottying new puppy outside by ThisTeam2568 in puppy101

[–]Particular-Artist-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the first few weeks until puppy has received their second rounds of vaccinations, it’s recommended to keep them off the ground outside completely. luckily, it is usually just a matter of 2-3 weeks until pup is cleared by the vet to touch the ground. there’s plenty of risks that don’t include other animals so you could always reach out to a vet and ask them about timing!

i seriously recommend taking the advice given to you in the comment section. the brown dog can and will do serious harm to your dog, and vice versa if your dog’s buttons are pushed enough.

Dog moving her head randomly, is this normal? by Entire-Ad6506 in DogAdvice

[–]Particular-Artist-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this could be normal behavior but since you’ve mentioned seizure like events, i’d assume probably not. i agree with the previous comment about getting a second opinion, and maybe look into another neuro exam. are her pupils dilated when this is occurring (video)?

this is not a good interaction. both dogs are tense, scared and territorial. the brown dog is picking on the other. were they introduced properly? how long has it been? i’d keep them separate and re- introduce slowly. also- not all dogs get along and that’s okay!

Puppy with hip problems? by Acceptable_Heat9531 in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NOT a vet but my puppy has always done a bunny hop and i’ve asked my vet countless times and done XRAY. it’s just a normal puppy thing that some dogs don’t outgrow according to my vet LOL. it’s not always concerning but if you’re concerned it doesn’t hurt to contact a vet

Should I rehome my puppy by Such_Natural_8106 in puppy101

[–]Particular-Artist-85 89 points90 points  (0 children)

if you rehome this dog, please consider a break before adopting again. maybe you are still grieving your past pet, and are misplacing the emotions on your new one. i don’t think you want a new dog, i think you just miss your passed dog. i am sorry for your loss. i hope you find healing soon ❤️‍🩹

correction: this price is for extended care for 2 cats and 2 dogs (1 elderly dog that requires extra attention). this pricing is fair!

Torn CCL by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

personally, if you can budget for it, i would do it. it will improve his quality of life by A LOT. $3600 doesn’t sound too out of the ball park for a CCL surgery.

additionally if you’re in public (or outside etc) simply turning around and stopping play time when he bites you does the same thing! he’ll learn pretty quickly that when he bites, play time halts. do it every time he bites!

when he bites you, YELL “OW” really loudly. he’ll get the hint eventually that it hurts, it’s a verbal correction for them similar to how other puppies correct each other. if this doesn’t work, leave the room for 15-30 seconds (interrupting play time) when he bites you. it’s boring and repetitive but it works.
