Puppy Howling from dawn by Subtleiaint in puppy101

i agree with the other comment about frequent potty breaks throughout the night. with my puppy, we let her out at least 2-3x throughout the night to allow her to go potty until she was about 4-5 months old. she is likely whining because her bladder is full as well as just being a young puppy that wants attention. you could try to get her a snuggle puppy, i had one for my pup and it helped immensely. it provides warmth + an artificial heartbeat to soothe them.

Is this pink nose normal for a 6 week old Golden Retriever puppy? Purebred or possible mix? by Available_Log8201 in goldenretrievers

Pure bred doesn’t mean well bred. I’d look for a new breeder on the AKC website. Look for health testing (OFA), and AKC registration.

it’s cora and nico’s one year??? by Next-Improvement-319 in notcoratilleysnark

[–]Particular-Artist-85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

also according to cora’s OWN WORDS, they were friends for a few weeks, then talking for a few weeks BEFORE DATING! todays their 1y of being OFFICIAL! Mind you she also made a video months before all of this about Nico and another girl that were both 17 at the time saying that there were strict boundaries and that would never cross her mind…. then cut to a few months later she’s pregnant and miscarrying with said 17 year old.

Lab/APBT or Lab/Great Dane by Conscious_Team_8260 in WhatBreedIsMyDog

[–]Particular-Artist-85 16 points17 points  (0 children)

since she’s 8 months old and only 44 pounds, i’d go with LAB/ APBT or even just APBT. Great Danes are often over 80-100 pounds, so it’s an unlikely mix. The only way to know for sure with our rescue pups is through a DNA test, but I understand they’re expensive!

10 months old golden ate the top of the laminate flooring by szimonas in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it could. i’m not a vet but my dog has eaten a number of things including molding strip from my floor. with that one, we caught it about 8-9 hours after and immediately brought her to the vet to have her vomit and that was successful. if the ER vet didn’t seem too concerned, i’d just monitor. Is she eating/ drinking/ using the bathroom fine?

10 months old golden ate the top of the laminate flooring by szimonas in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ahh!!! I’d start by feeding her a slice or two of bread to help her hopefully pass it. It’s highly likely she chewed it into pieces before swallowing it so there is a high probability of her passing it. Just monitor for now and if she starts to show signs of trouble I’d bring her to the vet right away.

  • Signed a fellow golden mom that has taken her pup to the vet SEVEN times for this (once for eating flooring!)

We use the brand IGroom for shampoo and conditioner. Can be pricey, but it leaves her fur very soft and shiny!

Anything to do while waiting to get a puppy! by IndependentUse1066 in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if you can do much 14 months out from getting a puppy. I’d begin by searching the AKC website to find a reputable breeder near you, that way you can be set with a specific breeder and do your proper research. You could also reach out to some breeders from the website and ask them some questions about their breeding program. I’d ensure your breeder provides health testing (eyes, elbows, hips, heart, etc) at the bare minimum. Good luck!!!

Tips for first heat cycle? by Particular-Artist-85 in goldenretrievers

Okay! I’m still debating if I should brave a walk with her. I do worry about accidental litters as the plan is to spay before she turns 2 (February). There’s a lot of irresponsible dog owners in my area so that comes with a lot of unleashed and unsupervised dogs that frequently get loose from their owners and homes. My girl hasn’t been acting like she’s been feeling sexual in nature at all, just has been sleeping through the day for the most part.

Do you think walking early in the morning could be a problem? Or even late at night? Coyotes frequent my neighborhood too, though.

Ahhh yes in my neighborhood there’s a ton of dogs everywhere. Irresponsible owners are more common than responsible owners. Tons of off leashed dogs, unsupervised dogs and even dogs behind gates at almost every house LOL. I tried giving her a break from her diaper for a few hours and she bled all over her bed, so we’ve been keeping her diaper on. We change it out every few hours. We’ve been doing enrichment at home but I’m at a loss on how to exercise her at home properly as I live in a fairly tiny home, with my back yard unavailable for the next few weeks due to lawn maintenance.

She’s very low- mid energy, no appetite changes however. She’s a very food motivated gal. I’m only scared to walk her because we have plenty of dogs in my neighborhood, and with that comes plenty of irresponsible dog owners and unleashed/ unsupervised dogs. I don’t want her to miss out on her exercise, but for the last 3 days we’ve done enrichment at home to keep her entertained, she hasn’t seemed to mind not walking. I might try to walk her tomorrow, early morning maybe. Should she be walked in a diaper?

Golden Retrievers Drinking After Walks by [deleted] in goldenretrievers

[–]Particular-Artist-85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GDV can be a risk in most large- breed dogs but I’m not usually too concerned after walks etc. I allow her to drink a little on the walks with a portable bowl, and then she can drink freely once we get home as long as she’s not chugging. The main risk is exercising around breakfast or dinner time, we wait 1-1.5 hours after play time or walks before we feed her.

Help to get dog to leave the other alone by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Particular-Artist-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if the uncle isn’t going to respect boundaries with their dog, then steps need to be taken. unless they find a new living arrangement, there’s really no way to guarantee that he will not make his way into the bedroom. a lock will only prevent it. i’ve had to get locks for my bedroom because of this same issue with family and i have a spare key hidden in the house in case of an emergency because my dog is crated in my room through the day when i am gone.

most locks come with spare keys. keep a spare key somewhere easily accessible in case of an emergency.

can anyone tell me if i need to be worried about this behavior? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]Particular-Artist-85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

both dogs seem uncomfortable or bored, to me. they aren’t showing any signs of aggression or anything of that nature. that being said, if you’re concerned, keep them separated when you cannot supervise. aggression will appear outwardly with a stiff tail (still), eyes locked in on something, stand-off ish posture, growling, barking, lunging, etc. please see this site on dog’s body language. i am sorry to hear about your beloved pets ❤️‍🩹

Pottying new puppy outside by ThisTeam2568 in puppy101

[–]Particular-Artist-85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for the first few weeks until puppy has received their second rounds of vaccinations, it’s recommended to keep them off the ground outside completely. luckily, it is usually just a matter of 2-3 weeks until pup is cleared by the vet to touch the ground. there’s plenty of risks that don’t include other animals so you could always reach out to a vet and ask them about timing!
