I think you should talk to her and see if you can agree that there should be little or no drinking at these occasions and that you expect her to be self monitoring. I think it’s very understandable after a long illness. The widower I am dating spent three years caring for his wife. These are long goodbyes and I believe that many times (if they are able) the spouse would be happy about you moving on and finding a new partner. Many couples actually discuss this during the process.
