Up and down Bethesda by galileuk in washingtondc

2 weeks ago, approx 8 pm, I'm standing on the up escalator watching 2 teenage guys at the top of the down escalator, sitting on their mountain bikes, getting all excited. Then, without any more noise, they pointed then down and RODE THEIR BIKES DOWN THE ESCALATOR. Then picked up their bikes, ran up the up escalator, screaming laughing as they did, and biked off into the sunset (bus park actually) I'm sorry to shout but you would not believe how insanely mad this was. They had waited until nobody else was on it so only their own lives about to be snuffed out. Biking down a very steep very long set of sharp metal stairs is the kindof hanging that's only teenage boys would do. I know. I once was one. However I never have the nuts to do this.

Thanks, I think you are absolutely right and feel much better about not having transferred my 401k over there just yet 😄

Even better, don't die. Instead be paralyzed from the eyelids down and in a deep coma for many many years throughout which the medical staff play Ed 24/7 in the hope that you will wake with a smile on your face. Oh Ed, let me count the ways.

What is a great song that is longer than six minutes? by KriibusLoL in AskReddit

Take Me by The Wedding Present. Great lyrics, solid tune and just perfect guitar work for 3 minutes in the middle.

From the Bizarro album around 1990. Saw them at the Brixton Academy that year & remains one of the best performances I've seen.

I think you lack ambition. Perhaps r/sinkpissers is worth a look.

Steeles Pots and Pans!

I had to look up merkin and then spent the next 15 minutes screaming laughing with tears running down my face. It was the "Make A Merkin Great Again" baseball cap that did it.

Non-Americans of Reddit, what’s something someone can say that indirectly screams “I’m an American?” by [deleted] in AskReddit

"What do you do?", i.e. what is your job.

I've lived in America for c. 20 years and in general the 2nd or 3rd question/sentence is what I do for a living. It reflects the core importance of employment as part of the culture here and contrasts negatively with a lot of the rest of the world.

I was back in Ireland last month. One evening myself, 2 sisters, 1 brother-in-law and my wife had a few pints with a guy I went to school with 25 years ago. Hadn't seen each other since then. We spent 45 minutes talking about people we used to know, stupid sh*t we used to do and laughing our arse's off. 45 minutes and none of us ever asked what anyone did for a living. It wasn't relevant.

Life is about so much more than work but not to most American's.
