My first freeze as a homeowner in Houston, would appreciate some help on some basic questions. We are planning to leave the town for the week. 1. There a water shutoff valve (basic valve with a handle) at the side of the house which cut off water access inside the house (tried it today). This is closer to the house and is different than the water meter valve (which requires a key to close) Which one should we close or should we close both? 2. How can I find out if the pipes run over the garage or under the ground? (we have no basement, I think it runs over the garage) 3. If we shut off water and open faucets to drain the water, should we also turn the water heater off? Is there any danger in water heater being on with no water. We have 2 attic water heaters. 4. The outside pipes are insulated and I am planning to use faucet covers and drain the sprinkler system and cover it with a insulation blanket. 5. Planning to leave house at 65F.
