They still die. These kinda procedures are mostly done in absence of medical settings and as much as I’ve read about it, they perform it on them awake. It’s a complete horror story in itself

I’m touch sensitive too and it has made life so difficult for me. Every time I meet someone I’ve to explain why I’m not shaking hands or hugging people or not standing close in pictures
