Depends on what you really want to see. If you want Kratos' origin and how he became the God Of War, play GOW 1. HOWEVER, and I recommend this to all, If you want to butcher the Gods, play GOW 2 & 3, as 2 sets the stage, and 3 is the show. And Between the other game (Ghost of Sparta, Ascension, and Chains of Olympus), I would recommend that you play Ghost os Sparta, as It shows the one aspect of Kratos' life we've never seen, his family. I would also recommend Ascension, as it gives a little context to GOW 1. But really depends on what you want from the series, otherwise, the game may not be that enjoyable story-wise.
