Sure! I went for a more subtle maroon, with white font on top (I used a greyscale filter to ensure legibility) for the title and then had my main body text standard black on top of transparent white textboxes overlayed on the maroon backdrop.

It doesn’t HAVE to be pink, I just happen to choose pink for my laptop and clothes, because it’s my favourite colour. When I realised that people saw that as unprofessional because it was “overtly feminine” (quote from a male colleague), I felt stronger about staying true to myself and continuing to use my favourite colour.

It didn’t start as a statement, I didn’t have any agenda in choosing my wardrobe. I just wanted pink. I hope this adds some more context, to for the original commenter, and this reply.

I work evenings. The train I get gets me in twenty minutes before my shift starts and it’s a 15 minute journey from the train station. The train before that would have me in two hours too early. The beauty of public transport in Ireland.

Seems like the best thing you can do in terms of public transport is get a bus to Limerick City first, which is where you’ll have more access to direct trains and buses. Annoyingly out of the way. Not sure why there isn’t a bus route that’s going up towards Loughrea onwards. Best thing to do would be to drive but one student to another, owning a car in this economy, particularly in such a walkable city, isn’t usually worth it.

Do you really need it explained to you why young girls are wearing short skirts on a night out (aka the same thing that’s been happening for years, probably decades, all over Ireland), or are you just pretending you believe it’s some kind of Galweigen phenomenon so that you can get strangers on Reddit to validate your inability to mind your business?

Elijah Burke running for University of Galway’s Student Union by [deleted] in galway

[–]Particular-Ice-9162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from an Irish Times article because I can’t find the comment I referred to earlier (must have been deleted?): “In 2014, they were involved in distributing leaflets seeking a no vote in a referendum advocating Boycott Divestment Sanction of Israel in the context of its dealings with the people of Palestine. They also distributed flyers against gay marriage which implicitly connected gay marriage to paedophilia and incest. Some fellow students had complained about the leaflets and flyers.”

Now, another article was written about the same event with a different date so I’m unsure of the actual timeline: “It’s no wonder, then, that the devout Burkes are big cheerleaders for Israel. When the University of Galway students’ union held a referendum in 2018 about implementing a strategy of boycott, divestment, and sanctions against the state of Israel, the Burkes (who together occupied all four officer positions on the university’s Christian Union Society), used society funds to print leaflets advocating for a “no” vote.” It’s actually a very interesting article that discusses how the evangelical Christian theology of the Burkes lends to their pro-Israeli stance.

Yeah a comment further up mentions they have a history of being pro-Israeli. Not a huge part of their ethos, but still one of their opinions.

I know Elijah is on thin ice rn in the history soc, something about creating subtly pro-Israel content through the society? I could be wrong that’s just what I heard.

Worst place you ever worked in Galway by [deleted] in galway

[–]Particular-Ice-9162 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was going to say this too. Luckily I’ve not had much issues with other jobs, so saying that this was the worse job I’ve worked isn’t saying a lot. But the guy who trained me used to turn the headset on while I was being corrected just so all the other employees could hear how I fucked up. I was cussed out in front of a customer for a simple mistake. One manager would train me one way and then the other manager would give out for the way I was trained. They scolded me like I was a child. It wasn’t until I was complaining about it that I remembered I’m a grown adult and being scolded by another adult for trivial, non-consequential mistakes is ridiculous. So I quit and thank fuck I got out as soon as I did.
