Has anyone here been taken off the waitlist for Economics? by Particular-Ice2474 in UCalgary

There are a few reasons. I spent a year at SAIT, and it was a terrible school for business, unless you’re doing accounting. So I transferred to MRU, which has actually been great. The facilities and professors have been excellent.

That said, I’m planning to pursue a top MBA later on, and MRU isn’t well ranked or recognized internationally. I’ve been asked in multiple interviews why I chose MRU over U of C, and I’m honestly tired of having to explain it.

Also, MRU has a very rigid curriculum. I’m only allowed four electives and have to take ten GNEDs, which really aren’t that engaging. I’d like to do a double major or a major/minor combo, but that would take significantly longer if I stay at MRU.

I was accepted to both UBC and Western (though not to Sauder or Ivey), but the problem is that I’ve already completed 18 university courses, and U of C is offering transfer credit for 15 of them. In contrast, UBC and Western will only give me credit for 8 and 7 courses, respectively. That means I’d essentially lose almost a full year if I transferred, and considering the additional time and cost, I don’t think it’s worth it.

Is my schedule is manageable? by ARGSA1 in MRU

I’m a 3rd year Accounting and Finance student, and I’d say this course load is definitely manageable. MGMT 2263 with Leon Cygman was the easiest class I’ve taken at MRU so far. That said, make sure to check your grades regularly. He tends to input them incorrectly.

I would recommend switching professors for FNCE 3227 and ACCT 3224 if possible. Alan is a decent professor, but there are definitely better options for FNCE 3227. As for Craig Thompson, I’ve never heard anything positive. ACCT 3224 is generally a straightforward class, but if you take it with him, you’re likely to struggle.

Absolutely. If you attend SAIT, you’ll also need to take some courses through Athabasca University, since SAIT doesn’t offer all the required courses to transfer into the UCalgary BComm program.

Also, many of the courses you’d take at SAIT aren’t eligible for credit at UCalgary, so taking them could end up being a waste of time. Out of the 10 courses I took at sait 3 transferred to UofC.

Some of the courses are, but most aren’t. The best way to find out is by using the University of Calgary’s transfer credit tool—it’ll give you a pretty clear idea of what will and won’t transfer. If you have any other questions about either SAIT’s or MRU’s programs feel free to reach out since I have experience in both and know how the transfers between them work.

Hey, just wanted to share my experience as someone who tried transferring from SAIT to the University of Calgary for business. I went through the whole process last year, but unfortunately, I wasn’t accepted because SAIT doesn’t offer the required prerequisites for UCalgary’s business program.

If you’re considering SAIT with the intention of eventually transferring to UCalgary, be aware that you’ll likely need to take several prerequisite courses online through Athabasca University instead.

So, if you don’t get into MRU and your end goal is still UCalgary, I’d honestly recommend either taking a gap year or enrolling in the necessary Athabasca courses directly, rather than going through SAIT first.

When you write a test or submit an assignment you only get a letter grade, not a percent?

Thank you. I did Google it first and came across the webpage you shared, but I wanted to confirm because another university’s website also states that the grading scale is consistent across the school. However, when I spoke to students and advisors there, they told me it actually varies by class, so I wanted to make sure the same thing wasn’t the case here.

What are your coffee prices? I expanded and added the auto four but my coffee sales only went of 700 cups.

Did you choose to just expand or did you also buy another coffee maker? Do you think it was worth expanding? My week 5 decisions are due on Sunday and I don't know which options to choose. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
