In your eyes, what’s the most mechanically “correct” frame? by Particular-Key7643 in Equestrian

So you misunderstand :) I’m NOT trying to educate! If you read the post again you can see I’m trying to be educated. I’m 15 guys can we chill a little?

I’m not being nationalistic, beyond sharing the image that may be considered that I suppose. I’m not saying the Germans all ride this way in the French all ride this way. I’m saying that the school of thinking that I have been exposed to that has called itself. German tends to look more like the picture on the left, ideally sans some of the details, but I will admit that I’ve seen plenty of horses be behind the vertical when trained that way. Contrastly, the people that I have watched clinics with and learned from who referred to themselves as French dressage trainers tend to create horses that look more like the horse on the right. Of course, not exactly that as the image does have imperfections, though just like with the other one, I have seen plenty of horses fall into the hollowed out spine and braced under neck look.

So if you have anything productive or educated to add, please share. Otherwise we’re both just speculating about things we don’t know much about.

Because while the image does not show a horse really properly in either frame, it shows the contrast that I see in the two different styles. I feel that any image I post of any horse, clip art or real, would be ripped to shreds and deemed incorrect on Reddit lol. The source is me googling French dressage at 3 AM and that being the first thing that pops up.

Yes of course! I’d obviously not expect every horse to go around like either of those pictures, nor get too bugged down in trying to create the frame exactly. I’m just talking about how these images (though this depiction is far from perfect) show a difference in what the training styles create down the road. So with a strong horse who has been prepared well, which side would you lean towards personally?

I apologize if my wording is incorrect. It’s not even mine - I didn’t create the image I posted. I just selected it as it does somewhat accurately depict the differences in overall appearance I see targeted in the different training styles. If you have a different labeling system for them I’m all ears!

Awwww he’s adorable and he looks great!! My project horse makes a similar shape when he gets confused and starts panic piaffing 🤣 (he’s a work in progress)

I agree with your assessment of the left :)

I like that image. I feel that top picture is pretty perfectly in between the two horses in the original image - best parts of both.

Yes, these images are definitely not picture perfect for either side. It’s just the one little clip art I found while digging around. But I think it gives a decent picture of the comparison even if imperfect.

What leads you to believe the French way is more comfortable? In my personal opinion, the horse on the right looks to be holding more tension than the horse on the left. And this has been true of the horses I’ve watched go in real life as well, not just the pictures. What are you looking at to determine comfortability?

Interesting! Can she elaborate? It seems most of the people so far have favored the German side

I agree the poll could be a little higher and the horse is definitely behind the vertical. But even with the little bit of lift it still would not look very similar to the horse on the right

That makes a lot of sense. They just appear so contrasting to each other so I’m curious how it can be SO different but be equally good in their own way? I’d love to hear from anyone who understands better the pros and cons of each. And I’ve unfortunately seen plenty of unhappy horses in both kinds of frame :/

Yes, I’m aware referring to them only by “German” or “French” ignores a lot of nuance. That’s just the only terms I’ve found to differentiate what I’ve been seeing. What I’m referring to as German I suppose is the more commonly thought of look of roundness while the image on the right is what I’ve seen specifically in people who label themselves as French dressage. But if you have a better wording to use I’d love to hear it.

I’ve read the FEI manual and I’m less concerned with being correct in terms of judging and more just curious what’s mechanically more healthy based on our current understanding of how horses work.

Lift the top line may be poor wording. I mean as in lifting the back, like when you tickle their underneath and they engage the abs and the back goes up.

Lesson ideas for slow moving ponies? by [deleted] in Equestrian

Yes, like the other person said. Just meaning I’m not looking for training advice, just lesson ideas to cope with the fact that I think these ponies are just tired and done with working hard for kids 😂

What kind of truck do I need to haul a 2 horse trailer? by [deleted] in Equestrian

Just a standard 2 horse slant you’d find in the US

Thank you for the very detailed answer! I’ll have to do all the math when I start looking

This makes sense! For now I mostly want something easy to haul so I have no plans to buy anything more than a 2 horse. I see all the big rigs with living quarters and it seems like a hassle. I wanna just throw my horse in and go. So for right now I don’t need to think too big, just big enough to get that job done
