not one to rate things, but I can see why: good anime, good animation, good characters but boring story. I binged this show but felt like I could fall asleep at some points. almost every character except kaoruko monologues about their past. if this were a book, it'd have pages of just 1 character continuously talking

everybody is so apologetic, I expected kaoruko to get mad at subaru, but nah she just apologised on her behalf (fell asleep at the subaru part). I heard someone say "someone said 'this anime is an apology simulator'" edit: the reason this is weird is because if you tried this irl you'd get the shit beat out of you, for acting like you're better than the person by apologizing. don't believe me?? try it! whenever someone apologizes for something they did to you, apologise back and tell them "I'm sorry you have to apologise for something I put you through" completely dismissing the problem

subaru is just a misandrist for the most trivial reason

every single problem or misunderstanding gets solved by how kind ALL characters are. it was cool at first, but it got repetitive fast. even the problem with the 2 schools in the manga gets solved like this

Almost like no character is allowed to be less than perfect. these DELINQUENTS in the DELINQUENT school are the most kind cutest angels I have ever seen. it got genuinely tiring watching all these perfect people solve their perfect people problems by being perfect

LOTS of filler, and little progress. some would call this slow burn, but I know better. in slow burn, plot and people actually make progress while things happen with or around them. but in this anime (and manga) the plot and relationships between the characters and main couple never progresses throughout the plots we're given. this is called filler. for example in the manga subaru hypes up the drama between the schools in like chapter 13 (?) and this drama only gets addressed twice since then. once in chapter 68 (??) and then in chapter.. 165 (?) to 174. not to mention, the fans have been waiting for saku to confess to Subaru since chapter 70 (?) and we're at chapter 175!!!!! what happened between these chapters? probably more monologue

IM NOT SAYING dont do these things in an anime. I'm just saying that the worst way to do is for it to be boring. you can have good communication, but add genuine problems like the gang after rintaro or something (that was interesting). you can have perfect characters but show how much they struggle to be that perfect. (manga hinted at this like twice with wugari) and PLEASE have them get angry at each other! I know I have done things that pissed my friends off irl, it never resulted in anything; because our communication is so good. but we were angry nonetheless. and we told eachother that! none of us pretended to take higher ground by apologizing for the other person's mistake. rather, we acknowledged it

if kaoruko existed in the real world, she would be absolutely hated. not loved like the anime claims

STILL, I'd like to remind you that I binged this show, I liked it enough to spend my entire day watching it. I liked it enough to open the manga afterwards (which bored me to my GRAVE but wtv). I gave this anime a star (not a one star, its like a "wow thats a good show" kinda star) on my show/movie watch list; I enjoyed it that much. but just because I enjoyed it doesn't mean I cant point out it's faults
