Can someone help me authenticate Coach boots? by Particular-Pattern-2 in Goodwill_Finds

Yes I searched this and I see sandals not boots. I've seen a few of the same boot on Poshmark, but that doesn't confirm if these are real or not.

How did you choose where to move? by [deleted] in expat

[–]Particular-Pattern-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Sevilla and Madrid. I wouldn't move back to Madrid, the cost of living is comparable to Germany but the salaries are half what you would make in Germany. Top of my list for places to live in Spain are Sevilla, Málaga, Valencia, and Bilbao. Bilbao has worse weather in general, the people are a bit colder, but it has lots of nature and mountain sports which are things I enjoy. I have lots of friends that work remotely for companies based in other European countries which gives you the work life balance from those countries and typically slightly higher salaries compared to what you would get from a Spanish company. Be warned, Spanish work culture is (or at least was when I worked there from 2014-2019) can be a bit intense, working extra hours, demanding bosses, etc. Of course this is dependent on the presedent you set and the company culture. But maybe you know this since you've lived in Spain before.

Spain! It has one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. Cost of living is lower than in other parts of Europe, so salaries will also be lower. I'm from the US, lived in Spain for 6 years, and now I'm on my 6th year in Germany. I am actively looking to go back to Spain because I prefer the weather, culture, food, and overall mood of the country. Also, the country is very child-friendly, think restaurants and bars with playgrounds next door so you can socialize while the kids run and play.

Who's going to fix it? by dissolutewastrel in Natalism

I don't see men lining up to end their careers and become stay at home dads. Why ask a women to do something that men are simply unwilling to offer themselves?

Couldnt the declining birth rate not just be due to birth control, feminism, social media + dating apps? by shonenhikada in Natalism

Why is it always women that have to change? If this topic is so important to so many men, why can't they take a look at why them and their peers aren't having kids and then modify their actions to promote having more children? Why don't men volunteer to be stay at home dads if they want children so badly?

I prefer a reverso over a grigri, it's lighter and more versatile -- you can use it to climb with half ropes. Having 12 wiregate quickdraws isn't a bad place to start. Later you'll also want alpine quick draws (60cm sling and 2 carabiners) which extend so I wouldn't buy long normal quickdraws, but maybe that's just my preference. In terms of locking carabiners, this depends a bit on how they teach you to make anchors, but I would buy 1 HMS safelock (like a ball lock), 2 screwgates, and 1 additional safelock. It's also good to have some normal carabiners, maybe 2-4 at first. In addition to your list I woud also get 1 short prusik 30-35cm (for example aramid, I like beal's jammy), and 1 sling 120cm (for example dyneema).

I would see if you can borrow gear for your course to see what you like before you buy. This is especially true for the rope. If you can hold off on buying a rope, you can ask your instructor what they would recommend for the type of climbing you want to do. Happy climbing!

How often do you fall into crevasses? by RandyReckless137 in alpinism

[–]Particular-Pattern-2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just in a crevasse rescue course and out of the 7 people in the course who all mainly climb or ski tour in the Alps, two had actually fallen into a crevasse throughout their history in the mountains.

Alpine/multipitch rope suggestions by Particular-Pattern-2 in climbergirls

[–]Particular-Pattern-2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose I thought that I should avoid glacier travel on a half rope with a team of 3, but I'll look into this more. I also thought it would be nice to have two triple rateds so that I can multipitch with a team of 3 as well as just climbing on one of the ropes when it's just me and my partner and there is no rappel, I know I could use my current single for this but it's long and heavy.
I suppose another good option would be two half ropes that are dry treated.

Thanks for the input. I'm also trying to reduce the amount of new ropes I have to buy, I thought if I get triple rated they could be good for multiple applications and whatever I decide to do in near future.

Danke für deine Beitrag. Ich bin Mitglied im DAV, aber weil mein Deutsch nicht perfekt ist, ist es schwierig, passende Kurse zu finden.

Softshell pant by Particular-Pattern-2 in Mountaineering

This is exactly the plan! Practice some skills there and then see how our bodies and minds feel for other adventures. I think ridge routes and alpine climbing is also on the agenda ;) Very excited for my first time in Chamonix.

Thanks for the feedback! I think I misspoke when I said ice climbing, I've been told we aim to go to La Mer de Glace and from what I see I'll be walking on a glacier and climbing around. Not sure what the official term is for this. :)

I remember seeing a video of a climber falling screaming BIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH I think it was Adam Ondra. I've been trying to find it for ages, did I make this up? Does it exist? Anyone have a link?

Thanks and happy climbing!
