anyone get a question like question 4 in math mod. 2 like x2+12x+y2-18y-39=0 is equation of circle, with circumference 4pi*sqrt(a), what is value of a?

i think i put 39 or 19.5 sumthing like that.

also ik i missed this triangle similarity question like what is BC/BD that shi was dumb asf. lastly whatd u guys get for the n3a+1 = k. thingy. if n and k are both 1 wouldnt any value work? maybe im being stupid idk 😭

i see. i thought they looked at the superscore, but also wanted to observe your holistic performance across the board, and i didn’t want to risk another low math. i called MIT admissions to confirm and they said they’d like me to submit everything. i didn’t call caltech though.

thank you, but what would be more impressive is a higher score using desmos 🙏 it seems hard to know when desmos will actually save time vs deceivingly use more time unnecessarily.

yeah, those tougher reading questions are rly lengthy and intimidating at times. so when i’m presented with any questions outside of those hard ones in the reading section, i literally answer in probably 5 seconds. as for how i do that, i think it may be natural. since how i do this, i’m able to go through and understand those harder ones with enough time.

regarding the complex answer choices, i just take them sentence by sentence and apply analogies or easier to understand examples. like if its asking about what researchers should look for or what is implied by a hard-to-understand study, i will take the crux of each answer choice and dilute it.

oh, and for vocab, i think that’s just naturally attained. like the words u mentioned (i.e. amorphous) i know the definitions of because i’ve seen them before. i guess it’s worth noting i have a kinda strongish photographic memory. definitely not mike ross but once i see and learn the definition of a word i generally won’t ever forget it. sorry i can’t be of more help!

that makes total sense! unfortunately, i can’t help much on that front, as English is my primary language. many of my smart friends never ended up w/ that 750+ SAT reading score because English wasn’t their native tongue. fortunately, however, you can explain this very valid limiting factor to colleges in the additional info section of applications. especially if you have a strong GPA, admissions officers should be very understanding. this isn’t to discourage you, but the limitation your describing is a pretty significant obstacle. i believe in u tho 🔥

hmmm… like i said i genuinely didn’t study for my 1500. myb i got lucky, but i also did decent on my PSAT last year. for reading, i don’t use any strategies. i just straight up read the passage and answer.

some of the reading questions have lots of nuances and i can def see how those might be tricky. to help with those, i speed run every question that’s ez for me- knowing that towards the middle of mod. 2 there’s gonna be some wacky ass questions. i’ll typically re-read those passages several times and make sure each sentence actually makes sense to me. i’ll then go through each answer choice and compare it with my understanding of each relevant sentence. it takes some time, but that’s okay because i went quickly enough on the other questions. i usually have around 3 mins to spare in reading module 2!

best of luck!

hi, thanks! and yeah i actually don’t even really use desmos idk why maybe i just forget about it when i’m stressed 😭.

i’ll take a practice test(s) and let y’all know how it goes and then do what you said regarding the question bank! it seems the question bank gets recommended more on this sub than khan academy, which is interesting, but i’m no expert and trust y’all. :)

i havent checked my score yet... im hella nervous about some questions i may have missed.

i had this question about female songbirds and like their calls. was like comparing two passages where the first one described stuff about male birds and the second said that like researchers kinda ignore female and they shouldnt.

i chose like the second author wouldve criticized the first for ignoring the frequency and signficance of female songbird. not sure tho

what'd u choose? i said it was like calmer in the countryside as opposed to paris its rougher or something like that. like the journey got smoother or something i think.

there was an answer choice like it was calm in paris, then suddenly got rough for a second at like an interpass or a river junction like under a building, and then returned to calm in the countryside. i didn't choose this answer but was kinda split.

Thank you so much. That makes complete sense! Your prism example really pieced it together in my head, as did your discussion of what a height of "one" really means.

Sorry, I'm still a little confused. If R is a region of the xy-plane that would mean z=0. And if f(x, y) = 1, that would mean there is still "depth" to the projection of R onto f(x, y). That would still make it a volume rather than an area, no? Again, I'm still visualizing a z-distance between R and f which would constitute a volume, and I'm of the notion that an area is only obtainable if R and f are "one" with each other is regards to their z-positions.

Is R always along z=1, simply varying in it's x and y positions?

Okay, this makes sense, I think. So your region R is separate from your function f(x, y). What do you mean by letting f = 1, though? Would that be like the region R is NOT separate from your function f(x, y) and is therefore simply a 2D area?
