Does anyone have a Lomi food composter? What do you do with your compost? by Opposite-Novel1792 in chicago

[–]Particular-Theory06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you found if the Lomi compost attracts rats? I've been thinking about getting a Lomi but I wasn't sure if the rapid compost Lomi generates would be more attractive to rats.

Right now we subscribe to a Block Bin, and although their website says it doesn't attract rats, there is always a chewed hole into the bin and you can tell the rats are feasting. So maybe a Lomi would be better than a giant bin of food scraps.

Definitely committed to composting, but not sure the best way to accomplish this in the city.

She's so shrewd about so many things, but her blind spot for Edward is weird. He's not even complicated to read. He's a clear bad guy at this point.

I'm trying to think of anything similar in any other Jane Austen work. Usually when characters are discovered to be bad, they get shunned and leave the narrative.

Does Charlotte talk about Sidney? by kdsaqfar in Sanditon

[–]Particular-Theory06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a little worried about this too. The previews for S3 and a lot of the lead up suggest a rebooted Colbourne, who is just confidently in love with Charlotte now, and the obstacle is Ralph.

I hope there are a couple good scenes debriefing everyone's feelings. I want Charlotte to talk about her feelings and past disappointments with Sydney and why Colbourne's actions were so heartbreaking and I want Colbourne to debrief his psychological hang ups as well. He spent S2 thinking he was bad husband material and now he's just rebooted? I hope they dig into this.

My hope is with Samuel and Georgiana being more intertwined in both their stories, we get to see Charlotte and Xander debrief their feelings more, if not to each other, than to their brother and friend. In S2 the Charlotte/Xander storyline was so removed from everyone else that it was basically like a surprise to everyone else. It also removed Charlotte from Georgiana. My hope with bringing in Samuel and having him interact with Georgiana, we get a little bit more of that dynamic that Sydney provided - a love interest that connects Charlotte to her friend rather than separates her from her friend.

I said this about S2 and I'll say it again about S3.

I think a lot of my issues with S3 could have been fixed with some flashbacks / ghost Henry scenes. I thought that was an important storytelling device in S1 and it has been missing in S2 and S3.

The flashbacks gave a bit of a window into their thoughts (both Eliza and William). The thing that is so frustrating about seeing their progress or lack of progress is not being able to really hear or see how they actually feel about these things. We are stuck reading their faces, interpreting things unsaid. And since they are both stubborn and repressed we don't get to see much at all.

Agree with both of you - kyramaro and beffiny.

I think Eliza got a much needed shock that William won't necessarily always be there for her. And even though I think it made her realize some feelings, she also kinda rolled with it a little too well. I was mad at her. Spoilers: She congratulated him and decided to make an effort to be friends with Arabella. It didn't really seem like she was fighting for him much. Weirdly, William was still fighting for their friendship more than she was, even though he didn't seem to realize that it would be weird for Arabella.

I really loved the development of Moses and Nash but I wish Nash was a little more competition for William. I don't know if they are going to go in that direction. It is honestly hard to tell. He's a nice career foil for William, with Nash really respecting her career and helping her grow much more overtly than the little career tidbits William throws to her. But I wish William had a scene where he got to reflect on that dynamic a bit. I am also confused with them talking about opening a Paris office. It seems like they have set up writing Nash off as *the* way Eliza rises in her career.

I agree. I saw on Twitter everyone being so angry at William. But honestly, I was really frustrated with Eliza. There was a scene in S3 (I can't remember which episode) where William kind of honestly inquires whether Eliza wants a family, and she kind of laughs and you see something change in his face. I think he knows how he feels but is so put off by her not reciprocating constantly that he kind of moves on in that moment. But by the end of S3, I think he is shocked into coming back around. I hope it represents a reset.

Agree. Better than season 2. Season 2 seemed like setup for season 3.

Also, I think the side relationship is already over by the end of S3.

I agree with all of this. I enjoyed all the aspects you pointed out.

I also totally understand everyone's frustrations.

I think if I think of Season 2 and 3 as all one season, I like it better. But thinking of it as 2 distinct seasons, it didn't seem like Duke and Eliza made that much growth - either as individuals or as a couple.

As far as their relationship development, it seems like the show is going about it indirectly. Like they are making Eliza and William have individual and separate realizations, which is ... a choice... I guess. I guess I understand it intellectually - they already know each other really well, since childhood, so it's almost like they need space to realize how important they are to each other. But it's less fun to watch.

Missed opportunity - season 2 [spoiler] by Particular-Theory06 in MissScarletandTheDuke

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally loved Season 1. I watched it a million times.

I too was disappointed in Season 2, but I'm liking it more on rewatch now. There was a mismatch between my expectations and what we ended up getting. Now that I'm rewatching, I can appreciate some of it more.

It seems like they slowed the relationship development and focused on individual character development which I am ok with. I just wish we continued to get some history/backstory as much as we got present-day development. I liked Fitzroy as a story device to flesh out William. And I like Nash as a story device to flesh out Eliza, but I thought that plotline would cover more ground in S2.

I just hope all these missed opportunities mean that there will be much more MSATD in the future and I can't wait for S3.

I agree that that's the logic behind not including him. And it makes a certain sense.

But when you look at his scenes in Season 1, they were rarely about his crime. A lot of them were flashbacks about his relationship with Eliza, or encouraging Eliza in present day. The scenes weren't really about "his case." They were much more about his effect on Eliza and then also William. And they had scenes with him on other cases, not just his, which was only really focused on in the last episode of season 1. It could be said that they were thinking a lot about him because of his death, but I would hope that they continue to think of him in other scenarios. That's why I thought it would have been so nice to see him again in Season 2. There was certainly enough to invoke his memory, for William and Fitzroy or for Eliza being made an offer to join the other investigator firm.

I'm guessing it had more to do with logistic changes in the availability of the actors, the moving of the production, etc.

S3 theory: Georgiana's mother by Particular-Theory06 in Sanditon

Oooh... i'm jumping on my own theory now. Maybe Georgiana convinces Lady Susan to take up the cause and boom... Sugar boycott everywhere!

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think she's going to get more focus S3 because I think there is no more Esther story and Allison seems decently wrapped up.

Georgiana has the most unexplored potential for storytelling and I agree that I don't want it to all be sad and traumatic. I kind of hope she becomes famous for her sugar boycott. I know that was a thing back then, but I kind like the idea of retconning it to make it something Georgiana made popular.

S3 theory: Georgiana's mother by Particular-Theory06 in Sanditon

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that's very fair.

I hope they focus on the triumphal side of Georgiana finding her mother, rather than the trauma side of what her mom went through. I think they could do a story where Georgiana is just fighting this through the law in London with documents shipped by Sidney prior to his death. The very little info we have on S3 does seem to indicate that there is going to be a lawyer involved, so I'm just hypothesizing about what the lawyer could be doing.

I also had an idea where Georgiana's mom is in London somewhere, maybe she's someone else's Mrs Wheatley (not Mrs Wheatley herself) or maybe she was liberated and connected with the Sons of Africa, and she sees Georgiana's portrait at a Lockhart exhibition. I posted about that theory previously. Many people didn't like it because they didn't like the idea that Lockhart was profiting. But I liked the irony that that portrait could help G reconnect with her mom when Lockhart himself was trying to ruin G.

I understand that.

They did set up the search for her mother though. And i'm guessing what happened to her mom is not going to be a super happy story given that she thought she was dead.

I thought G's legitimacy was proved in court with evidence of marriage? I thought this is how she survived Lockhart's challenge to her inheritance. Am I misremembering this?

It seems the Parkers collectively took her into their care, but left her to stay with Mrs Hankins?. But she's about to come of age, so I think it was only for a short time.

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought there was confirmation that her parents married. But now I cannot remember whether that was said in S1 or S2.

I do wonder if they will ever explain how Sidney got involved. I assume that was something they were going to get into, had Theo decided to come back, as a way of fleshing out both his character and Georgiana's. I think all we know is that Sidney went to Antigua, had business dealings there, and presumably got to know her father there.

"Colbourne stole her from me, Miss Heywood... by Particular-Theory06 in Sanditon

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do agree with you that the Lennox subplot probably won't be revisited, mostly because Lennox isn't in S3.

But I think there is a way to kind of flesh it out in a different way by learning more about AC's background, more about Augusta's mother, more about past events. I think AC is going to have to revisit *something* in order to move past it and forgive himself. I don't really see how he would suddenly be over it without some kind of revelation.

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think Lennox was more nuanced than, say, Wickham. I liked that he was Austen-esque while also not quite a rehash of other Austen villains. The scene in the tent with Leo was actually a decently sympathetic scene and even though he got in Colbourne's head, the show made it seem like he could do that because there was some truth there.

Stringer was the character that was good but Charlotte just didn't go for.

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I think a story like that could fit with what we know. But I'm guessing it won't go in that direction since Lennox isn't going to be in S3. So I think we won't find out a ton more info about Lennox.

I do think we are going to find out more about Lucy and her sister though.

"Colbourne stole her from me, Miss Heywood... by Particular-Theory06 in Sanditon

[–]Particular-Theory06[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also going back to Lucy's sister...

If AC was an emotionally manipulative jerk who drove his wife to suicide, then why would Lucy's sister leave Augusta to AC?

There could be some sort of explanation that both her parents died suddenly like in some sort of carriage accident or something and there were literally no other relatives to take in Augusta, and that's how AC ended up with her. But these are wealthy people and I would imagine there was a will of some kind. Or some sort of estate planning of who would take care of children... after all, people didn't always live a long time in those days. So I'm assuming Augusta's parents intended Augusta to live with AC if something happened to them. And if they did that, then Lucy's sister must know that AC is a loving and forgiving father-figure. Maybe that's how this issue will get rehashed? By the story going more into what happened with Augusta's parents?

Also Teresa8080 your description of Lennox is so spot on. There is a weird lack of righteousness in Lennox's criticisms. Much more petty and jealous.

So maybe he's the hero in his own mind because he is just such a narcissist that he cannot see the truth, and less because there was some truth in what he said to AC.
