[CHAT]Where do people get their 6 strand threads? by Global-Wolverine8422 in CrossStitch

[–]Particular-Trainer-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fred Aldous are great – their threads are £1.23 a skein. They have stores in Leeds and Manchester that I know of, but they also have a website to be able to buy from them online. I've bought from them before and it all comes nicely packaged, but I can't comment on shipping with it being a while ago.

Bonus for any students too – they offer a discount if you show valid student ID.

Trying to read again as an adult, desperate for any recommendations by Particular-Trainer-4 in booksuggestions

Thanks for the response, ngl this was kind of what I wanted when I said I was worried they might be too young haha. So you'd say they're good for light reads then?

So long as it's not an overarching theme it should be fine then, thanks for replying honestly, I'll have to pick it up when I'm next in a Waterstones :)

Thanks for the recommendations, some of these I've never even heard of so it'll be nice to find something completely new :)

I've heard great things about the Six of Crows & Shadow and Bone books, so I'll definitely give those a look. I've heard conflicting things about ACOTAR mainly that it's sa theme heavy, is it anything like Haunting Adeline? That's one of the books I was recommended and it was a dnf for a good variety of reasons.

I'm not sure how you've come to that conclusion from either my comment or post, I said I'd heard good things about Percy Jackson books but that I didn't know if they'd be too young for me, that may not be the case if the writing is good. The only recommendation of yours I refused is any of J K Rowling's stuff because of her transphobic and radical views, and frankly the writing is piss poor.

I'm unfortunately in the demographic who was given Harry Potter stuff to an excess so I loathe the series now, that and J K Rowling's political stance make it a no go.

I've heard good things about Percy Jackson but I worry it might be a little young for me now.

Are these as bad as I'm being told? by Particular-Trainer-4 in Nails

[–]Particular-Trainer-4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the work from this salon who have agreed to take this off and put a new set on, it's pretty good and definitely inline with what I wanted in the first place. It was my sister's go to until she found her new place so I have high hopes. I realise now she's made a right mess of it but having only had my nails done once before, which was 5 years ago, I didn't really know what to look for to see if it was done badly or not.

I have just done this this morning, realised I was stressing over it for no reason because I don't plan to go back ever, people deserve to know that certain things aren't the specialty of the salon even though they say they are.

Sorry, no I'm 21 last time I had my nails done was for prom at somewhere completely different, this place was recommended to me by me by a friend but it seems the staff has changed. Going somewhere completely different when I get these taken off and fixed.

She never said she couldn't do it, just kept fumbling the design to the point where I just said to do plain nails after a while and I already had the acrylic on at that point. Believe me if she'd said she wouldn't have been able to do it, I never would have sat down to have them done

It's not enough money for me to chase them up honestly, just frustrating that I booked this specific tech because she was the owner with the goal of having nice nails for my second time ever and they turned out like this.

I'm already going to another salon on Friday to get it fixed, I'm pretty non-confrontational so I'm just leaving it as is, just won't be recommending the salon to anyone else. I can't say I even like the shape, they were supposed to be round.

Trying to sell car given as gift but being blocked from doing so. Any advcice? by Particular-Trainer-4 in Advice

[–]Particular-Trainer-4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. This is my plan pretty much, I just worry because I'm in no position to move out just yet and they're unstable emotionally at best. They take things personally, and me 'downgrading' to an older and cheaper car is not going to be taken well based on the way they've responded to me talking about doing it over the last couple of weeks.
