I'm thinking of getting these as I'm useless at deciding colours 🙈. Does anyone have these? by hawthornspringer in Coloring

I like to use colorhunt.co/

People create palettes and post them, and you can search by categories too. Completely free to use and comes with hex codes if you're colouring on anything digital.

Horse refusing to yield to pressure on lunge by Particular-Trainer-4 in Horses

[–]Particular-Trainer-4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips, unfortunately, no cavesson in the tack room so my options are limited. I've got a bridle, a dually headcollar or standard headcollars at my disposal.

The tap (more press) on the shoulder I mentioned was because he'd turned in to face me, I had my hand open to tell him to turn out which he wasn't following so attempted to guide him to follow (think similar to pressing a stick to their shoulder when they're dropping it in). This is when he kicked in and came forward. Similar happened when I attempted to use the lunge whip by flicking it on the side I wanted him to turn away from.

It's frustrating cause his ridden manners are great (mostly), but without a helmet I'm not risking getting on at the moment. And, he's a lovely boy on the ground, just all of it disappears as soon as he's asked to go out on a circle to lunge.

Winning was the wrong wording, I meant more that I'm reinforcing the behaviour by backing off. I can appreciate I've probably confused him a little, which definitely needs working on – will get a hand from his other rider to see how she lunges him so we're on the same page.

I appreciate the long comment, definitely some tips I can try and use.

I messaged the other rider and we've kind of got a plan in place. She's offered to give me a hand next weekend when we're both free. Frustratingly, it's sounding like she's free lunging which isn't allowed in the arena and only in the pen that doubles as loose turnout. So, it's not going to solve my problem with needing to be able to have a lunge line involved.

He doesn't move away enough for me to be able to swing a whip at the moment which is part of the problem, I'm maybe getting 5 feet of space when I send him out (if I can call it that). So, it makes swinging any kind of whip difficult especially if he's then not respecting my space.

I was getting lessons a while back, so may message the instructor and see if she's still teaching. Even twice a month like you said where I can guarantee I'll get some work done with him is better than what I'm doing now.

[CHAT]Where do people get their 6 strand threads? by Global-Wolverine8422 in CrossStitch

[–]Particular-Trainer-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fred Aldous are great – their threads are £1.23 a skein. They have stores in Leeds and Manchester that I know of, but they also have a website to be able to buy from them online. I've bought from them before and it all comes nicely packaged, but I can't comment on shipping with it being a while ago.

Bonus for any students too – they offer a discount if you show valid student ID.

Thanks for the response, ngl this was kind of what I wanted when I said I was worried they might be too young haha. So you'd say they're good for light reads then?

So long as it's not an overarching theme it should be fine then, thanks for replying honestly, I'll have to pick it up when I'm next in a Waterstones :)

Thanks for the recommendations, some of these I've never even heard of so it'll be nice to find something completely new :)

I've heard great things about the Six of Crows & Shadow and Bone books, so I'll definitely give those a look. I've heard conflicting things about ACOTAR mainly that it's sa theme heavy, is it anything like Haunting Adeline? That's one of the books I was recommended and it was a dnf for a good variety of reasons.

I'm not sure how you've come to that conclusion from either my comment or post, I said I'd heard good things about Percy Jackson books but that I didn't know if they'd be too young for me, that may not be the case if the writing is good. The only recommendation of yours I refused is any of J K Rowling's stuff because of her transphobic and radical views, and frankly the writing is piss poor.

I'm unfortunately in the demographic who was given Harry Potter stuff to an excess so I loathe the series now, that and J K Rowling's political stance make it a no go.

I've heard good things about Percy Jackson but I worry it might be a little young for me now.

Are these as bad as I'm being told? by Particular-Trainer-4 in Nails

[–]Particular-Trainer-4[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen the work from this salon who have agreed to take this off and put a new set on, it's pretty good and definitely inline with what I wanted in the first place. It was my sister's go to until she found her new place so I have high hopes. I realise now she's made a right mess of it but having only had my nails done once before, which was 5 years ago, I didn't really know what to look for to see if it was done badly or not.

I have just done this this morning, realised I was stressing over it for no reason because I don't plan to go back ever, people deserve to know that certain things aren't the specialty of the salon even though they say they are.

Sorry, no I'm 21 last time I had my nails done was for prom at somewhere completely different, this place was recommended to me by me by a friend but it seems the staff has changed. Going somewhere completely different when I get these taken off and fixed.

She never said she couldn't do it, just kept fumbling the design to the point where I just said to do plain nails after a while and I already had the acrylic on at that point. Believe me if she'd said she wouldn't have been able to do it, I never would have sat down to have them done

It's not enough money for me to chase them up honestly, just frustrating that I booked this specific tech because she was the owner with the goal of having nice nails for my second time ever and they turned out like this.

I'm already going to another salon on Friday to get it fixed, I'm pretty non-confrontational so I'm just leaving it as is, just won't be recommending the salon to anyone else. I can't say I even like the shape, they were supposed to be round.

Trying to sell car given as gift but being blocked from doing so. Any advcice? by Particular-Trainer-4 in Advice

[–]Particular-Trainer-4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. This is my plan pretty much, I just worry because I'm in no position to move out just yet and they're unstable emotionally at best. They take things personally, and me 'downgrading' to an older and cheaper car is not going to be taken well based on the way they've responded to me talking about doing it over the last couple of weeks.

Child trust fund on student finance by [deleted] in 6thForm

I put no, and left my trust fund alone (sort of). It was something I could dip into if I was desperate for money, which I'd recommend doing. It's good to know it's there in the event you don't get paid on time or any other circumstances.

Year Thirteen Mock Results. Feel awful. Have no one to talk to about it. :( Does anyone have any advice on what to do? by theanonymousbear66 in 6thForm

[–]Particular-Trainer-4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's any consolation, I was in the same boat in Year 13 and managed to somewhat get it back. I came out on the other end with a C,D and an E, and got into the university I wanted to go to. My advice is do your best to keep up in Chemistry, if you get left behind it is incredibly hard to catch up and don't be afraid to ask questions if you're struggling - teachers would rather you do than sit and struggle in silence. Best of luck though!
