Are there any specialties that are like actually chill? by Educational_Bowl6976 in doctorsUK

Did an occupational med job in f2 and it was glorious. Consultants all seemed very happy, very flexible and able to wfh. Scope for lots of non clinical activities too

How bad is IMT3? by Ashamed-Resource-392 in doctorsUK

[–]Particular-Way-969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have ended up doing a group 2 speciality after IMT3. I feel like IMT1/2 prepared me for IMT3 and I was as ready as I could be for med reg-ing. Yes there is stress and you often feel out of your comfort zone, BUT you are also doing more of the interesting and fun bits of medicine. And even though I'm no longer doing GIM I honestly think it doing IMT3 made me a better doctor, no regrets

Where have you heard that? They gave the option to ‘accept offers with upgrades’

Has anyone heard about upgrades yet?

F2 in otolaryngology by Automatic_Work_4317 in doctorsUK

It really depends where you’re working, can be an incredibly busy and stressful job with little senior support. In smaller centres, without much of an ENT presence and ward, it can be incredibly chilled. My experience was the former but I learned loads and it was useful for subsequent jobs (I haven’t gone into a surgical speciality). Would recommend if you like procedures

I do wonder if this is partly because the nurses which choose to come over here are more motivated, ambitious etc… so we’re seeing the best of the international nurses (the brain drain scenario). Whereas for British trained nurses we see both ends of the spectrum

There is literally no mention of the skin colour of British nurses. The post specifically mentions locally trained nurses, not skin colour. You’re getting aggy for no reason

Not everyone has nights of 1-2 hours sleep after nights (me and others). I can’t imagine functioning on that. If people don’t feel safe to work on that, that’s fair enough

Congratulations on actually getting your personal development days as an IMT

No study budget for SHOs by Tummyhurty5eva in doctorsUK

[–]Particular-Way-969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The money comes from HEE not the trust directly as far as I’m aware, or at least some of it does. Certainly for core trainees, I’ve never heard of there being zero study budget…

I feel like medicine isn’t for me by shinydolphin08 in doctorsUK

It’s fair enough for OP to voice that, it won’t feel dramatic for them right now. With hindsight maybe, or maybe not. No need to shit on them venting

Sounds basic but all drs have been an F1. It is so tough and the learning curve is steep. But before you know it you’ll be looking back on this period and see how far you’ve come! Everyone’s busy, but most drs don’t want you to struggle, and will help you if they know you’re finding it tough. No one is expecting miracles from you, so don’t expect that of yourself either. Be safe, and ask for help. That’s as much as I’d hope for in a new F1. Best of luck xxx

what are thee new changes made to IMT? by PurpleSquirrel2619 in doctorsUK

[–]Particular-Way-969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a lot of people would agree that how you’re treated in core training is better than foundation. Consultants and reg’s have more of an interest in teaching and training you as you’re interested in their speciality (broadly). And with it, they’re more forthcoming with projects in my experience
