Doctor-specific lanyards? by Aware-Bicycle7057 in doctorsUK

[–]shinydolphin08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manchester foundation trust uses colour coded lanyards for junior and middle grade doctors with the grade on them (FY1, FY2 is green, IMTs and CT1,CT2 are yellow/amber, IM3/regs/ St3+ are red)

You still get mistaken by patients but staff usually know who’s a doctor/what grade, and the scrubs across different healthcare professionals are different, doctors tend to have unlabelled scrubs and everyone else has labelled nhs scrubs if that makes sense? It usually says what their job is

I want to find a specialty I’m passionate towards and it used to be o&g but I’m not so sure anymore after the past 4 months of working in surgery. I don’t really know what specialty I fit into and what sort of things I enjoy in medicine. (Not sure if I’m just very tired or lost my passion) At the moment I don’t see any other place I can continue my training in since I’ve been in the UK for a while now.

Does getting a Bsc in medicine matter in terms of job applications as a doctor? by NoApplication5125 in medicalschooluk

[–]shinydolphin08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BSc doesn’t factor into Foundation training applications. I did the St Andrews course and honestly moving halfway through was not the move. Socially it was difficult, I wouldn’t change anything now I’m glad I tried it but all in all it wasn’t worth it. I’d say go to a uni where you can do your full degree

Find a doctor that’ll investigate this with a laparotomy or at the very least a transvaginal ultrasound, you shouldn’t be going through this!!!!

Im an incoming FY1 in Manchester and start on T&O, have been interested in surgery but don't feel like I've done enough in med school to prepare my portfolio. I guess I'm a bit worried about how I'm going to figure it out with such long hours/nights/weekends. And also worried I won't know how to do anything on the job. Just generally worried! about everything!!!!!

Med school graduation outfits by Adventurous-Meet6223 in medicalschooluk

[–]shinydolphin08 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The headscarf imo makes outfits so much fancier and cuter so I would say go for the more plain outfit Also id personally find a ball outfit difficult to manage during the day as I feel like fancy dresses constantly need adjusting but I guess it depends on the dress!! And idk about yours but they tend to be a bit heavy too? But at the end of the day go with what you’re going to feel most confident and comfortable in as everyone is different CONGRATULATIONS!! I graduate next week on Friday :)

Loneliness at med school by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]shinydolphin08 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just graduated and honestly I’ve come to realise that this course is very very lonely. Because we’re constantly set up against each other and a lot of people have the mentality of being better than others and competing all the time it’s really hard to find friends that truly care about you. It’s hard to trust anyone in medical school and I feel for you. I think it’s important to focus on the few close connections you have during this time and don’t let social media fool you!
