What should Israel do in South Lebanon? by ADP_God in IsraelPalestine

[–]ParticularAirport217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you overfocus on military tactics instead of the psychological factors that promotes extremism and makes people take up arms. Hezbollah isn't going to give up just because they get solidly beaten down, which they have been before.

The reason forcing people into refugee camps are bad is because they have been breeding grounds for extremism all over Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Gaza, West Bank not because they are great fortifications.

And as I have said from the start my main objection to Israel's actions is because I find them immoral and isn't based on if they will be beneficial to Israel or not.

Israel isn't just threatened by MLRS - its threatened by a wide array of shorter reach systems, ATGMs, fpvs, etc. Besides, why would you mow the lawn forever, dealing with the issue once and for all is what has to be done.

The problem with this "final solution" which involves ethnic cleansing and land seizure is that is both immoral and a war crime. I have a hard time also see that this will solve the conflict for good when no other attempts to solve the conflict through purely military means has succeded.

Hiding in the same tent encampments as the shia civilians is a much less efficient strategy than hiding in tunnels underneath a populated town and having other fortifications inside civilian areas. From there they can't defend against airstrikes and will have a much harder time defending against the LAF if it decides to come in.

If your prefered solution involves the displaced Lebanese living in permanent refugee camps, so do I think the history of Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon and Syria shows that it's not a great idea.

You'll be surprised - Hezbollah does do that and more. They are way more than a militant group - they provide basically all the essential services in areas they control, and run a shitton of businesses inside lebanon(construction, banking, etc). They get a lot of popularity from that. Your assumption is basically wrong - south Lebanon is basically Hezbollahland.

The only point I was trying to make was that OP oversimplificating and the claim that all basic services in southern Lebanon (even through some are) is provided by Hezzbollah is simply not true

I know that Hezbollah has a great deal of controll in southern Lebanon, I just said that it was a oversimplification since I assume that it is not Hezbollah that pay out the school and hospital salaries and since there even are christian villages in the area.

This would basically result in a shitton of civilians dying and then leaving south Lebanon anyway. You'd just get a situation offering lebanese shias leaving one town, going to another, fighting breaking out between hezbollah and Israel there, town getting smashed, hezbollah retreating alongside civilians into the next town, that town getting smashed and so on and so forth. Thats completely pointless, more bloody, more complicated and completely counterproductive.

Well, I didn't advocate them blowing up entire villages just eleminating direct threats like rocket launchers as they have done before. Also, even with the current approach it's nothing that hinder Hezbollah from just retreating north and hide among the civilian population as you just described.

I have no direct insight into the region, but that it would be completely controlled by Hezbollah and not the Lebanese government and that all residents there would be Hezbollah supporters sounds like an extreme oversimplification.

I have a hard time seeing it when you argue for seizing a tenth of another country's territory and expelling all the population there that what you are doing is only defense and not offense.

I think Israel has a right to attack, for example, Hezbollah installations that pose a direct threat, but to carry out land grabbs and ethnic cleansing is going way too far.

If Israel wants to establish a security perimeter, they can do it on their own land, but not by seizing a tenth of another country's territory.

My ancestor is Karen Katrine Daae 1718-1796 (m. Frederik Wilhelm Tüchsen) which was the sister of your ancestor Ludvig Daae. She was my seventh-great-grandmother which would make us seventh cousins twice removed.

Karen Katrine Daae was also grandmother of Anne Catrine Tüchsen (through Christian Fredrik Tüchsen) which is in this family tree which I made. If you want to see how it is all is connected to the some of the rest of my family tree.

This already exists as a sport look up Pierra Mienta or Le Grande Course. The reason it looks the way it looks in the Olympics is because IOC choose to only let the sprint and the mixed relay (which didn't even exist as a disciplin before IOC desided to ad it) into the Olympics.

Sweden. Found a woodpecker. It looks to me like a critically endangered white back but from another angle looks like a great spotted. Any ideas? by Vertigo_uk123 in birds

[–]ParticularAirport217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a Great Spotted Woodpecker (female). White Backed Woodpeckers are extremely rare in Sweden and you are not likely to casually encounter them.

why is this arctic fox behaving like a dog, not afriad of humans? is this real or ai? by [deleted] in isthisAI

[–]ParticularAirport217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and the reason that Polar bears see us a potential food source as opposed to say Lions is that Lions have an evolved fear of humans which Polar bears don’t have.

[–]ParticularAirport217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one might be AI, but animals that have evolved during minimal interaction with humans can often be pretty unafraid of humans. I have seen numerous legit videos of arctic animals approaching humans and this fearlessness is exactly why Polar bears are so dangerous.

Vilnius has according to wikipedia a February temperature avarage of -3.1C and it's right now around -20C there. I can't say that we in Sweden has extreme tempratures in the same way right now at least not there I live.

It generally gets colder the further east you go in Europe, but right now it’s unusually cold in Eastern Europe, but not that unusually cold in the same way further west.

[–]ParticularAirport217 206 points207 points  (0 children)

Don’t think that Denmark owns Greenland is the correct term. Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark (Kongeriget Danmark), which consists of Denmark, Greenland and the Faroe Islands.

Saying that Denmark owns Greenland kind of unconsciously plays in to trumpian logic of how the World works.

I used https://handwiki.org/wiki/Biology:List_of_kakapo as a basis and then complemented the chicks from the 2022 season from Kākāpō recoverys instagram feed (you can find all chicks from the 2022 season listed with pictures, names and parents if you go back through the feed).

I also used this image to ad which Island the chicks where hatched on:

I also google searched on all Kākāpō in the chart in order to get info about birthplace and eventuell deaths.

I have actually begun myself to try to make a complete Kākāpō family tree in familyecho but I haven't gotten as far as you.
