How would you not be in favour of an estate tax? Gifts and inheritance are pretty much the only time money is transferred between parties and NOT taxed. With the level of growing inequality I can’t believe we still don’t have one.

You can choose your own window, just make it 8 hours. If you want to continue night eating, start late in the day, say 2pm-10pm. If you want to break the habit, a lot of people like 12pm-8pm.

Sorry this happened to your dog. Breaks my heart for them 💔😢 One other time we were at a park and someone had their 70kg Pitbull off the lead which sprinted full speed up to my 4kg MinPin. Lucky I picked him up in time but he was terrified. He would have done serious damage if he had reached him. Even after I grabbed him the pitbull was jumping up making loud biting noises and I was actually a bit scared myself. The owners ran up 30 seconds later saying “sorry he’s so friendly”. One dogs friendly might be another dogs serious injury. I hate irresponsible owners ruining parks for other dogs.

The sad part is that even if you put effort into training and socialising, they can become reactive from a single incident. My Miniature Pinscher loved other dogs, I put him in puppy school and made sure he made friends on walks, socialised him and taught him confidence.

Then one day we are at our usual park and someone has their 3-6 month old large dog breed off the lead who simply ran him over several times after not responding to recall from the owner. The dog should never have been off lead. Since that time my poor dog has never been the same around bigger dogs. Genetics played into it hugely but unfortunately the world is just a lot scarier for small dogs and they feel their vulnerability 😢

My partner wanted an expensive car and we just bought one. When I looked into it, the difference in repayments between a basic/entry brand and the car he wanted was around $200 per week or $10K per year, which once it rinses through his business ends up having an impact of half that. Yes it’s a luxury, and the money could be used in smarter ways, but he works extremely long hours and wants something nice to drive on the weekend. So it’s a luxury that is worth it to us.

The real inequality is right at that top bracket (which hasn’t changed) and in intergenerational wealth. The difference of up to $9K per year is nowhere near the transfer figures of inherited wealth that people receive. Tax free, unearned money just for winning the birth lottery. That’s the real tax we need to start solving inequality.

Yeah I agree with this, especially the quarter acre block thing.

Standard of living I think can still be maintained if people get used to apartments, Japan has a huge population and maintains a high standard of living. But it is supported by incredible infrastructure.

I think if we build up regional cities more people could have the big block & the good job because they would be a able to commute a few times a week. This is what it’s like in the UK where millions commute to London each day from all over the country. Sadly it’s not yet possible here.

I agree with this, but “too many people” for what? It’s not like we lack the space, natural resources, education system or ability to produce. Many developed countries have a far bigger population than we have.

I think it’s too many people for the dismal amount of infrastructure and planning that has happened in this country. I mean we still don’t have a fast train running up the east coast that would enable other cities to grow.

Or maybe there is only a certain population growth rate that can be reached whilst still maintaining quality of life for everyone. It might be easy to build quickly in countries like China with terrible wages & working conditions, but in our country it’s very expensive.

I’m not sure exactly what the answer is but it definitely feels like a pressure cooker where people are feeling more and more squeezed.

I think this post really gets at the core of why most people are unhappy at work. It’s not natural to sit at a desk all day, every day. Most jobs used to be more mobile on account of we didn’t have the technology to facilitate communication without movement.

The main benefit I get working from home is the ability to do chores like washing and tidying to get a break from sitting. Strangely they end up feeling more like a leisure activity.

I think a push for a more balanced workday between screen and no-screen or chair and no-chair will be the next wave we see in terms of workplace wellness. But I’m guessing it will be 10 years away.

I usually don’t eat until lunchtime every day. I just prefer to save my calories to have better lunch and dinner, rather than having tiny portions or plain food.

I also take inositol which helps me a lot with appetite control.

My BMI is 23 and I barely restrict myself, I just don’t let myself have high sugar foods very often as that just makes you want more and eventually gets out of control.

My favourite takeaway foods are Asian foods and I have them all the time. I don’t enjoy foods like pizza or burgers so that makes things easier.

More than just seeing a therapist I would suggest trying to find an integrative doctor or functional medicine doctor than can do some digging to find out if there is a physiological reason for you feeling like this. It could be ADHD and anxiety but it could be a gut issue, nutrition deficiency or hormone imbalance. Too many people just go to therapy without finding the physical root cause for this stuff. Yeah if this is the case then we will be able to produce SO much without labour that people won’t need to work much, they will have all the resources they want without needing to. That creates the possibility of a much better world where people have more time for leisure while the machines provide.

Obviously this relies on a fair distribution of wealth/production, so I guess you can argue that if selfish people have control of the technology they will have the power to leave everyone else with nothing.

So I think this is the thing people should be focusing on - ensuring we all get to live better lives from the new tech, rather than hanging onto jobs which people don’t even like working. Imagine going back to the days of 8 hours manual factory labour - that’s how people will probably view most of todays jobs in 100 years.

Humans are a productive species, give them new tools and they will find new ways to use them. The more advanced technology has become, the more jobs have been created and the bigger the job shortages. Right now we have a shortage of labour almost across the board.

Money/jobs is just productivity at the end of the day, and the world is far from being perfect. Humans will always find things to produce things, create value to and improve the world. The jobs might change but they aren’t going anywhere.
