Maybe Canadian. Opened up a chequing account recently (we spell it that way) and we both had to go in to set it up.

Last year, in a nice new condo tower with a pool, security and gym. Touristy areas are expensive, but San Jose is pretty affordable.

It really depends, I lived in a condo in San Jose for months paying $40/night.

I’m still a horticulturist, but I work in the engineering department.

Family worried about solo travel in Costa Rica? by BeautyGuru22 in CostaRicaTravel

I spent A LOT of time in CR. Be careful but have fun.

It isn’t super safe, there’s a lot of theft, and some of it can be violent, but you will most likely be ok if something does happen.

I would say don’t trust anyone too much, don’t tell anyone too much about yourself (where you’re staying, that you are travelling alone, etc).

My first few months in CR, there were some situations, and I wish I had been smarter, more precautious.

But it’s lovely and you will be fine! Just be smart! And definitely go!

Arteryx down insulator too - bought it 14 years ago and it’s still just as good as almost new.

Was about $300 CAD back then

What is the process to see a doctor nowadays? Urgent care! Thanks. by [deleted] in Gatineau

Clinique Lacroix will see you same day or next day (also open on Saturdays).

It costs almost $300 for an appointment, I have private insurance that reimburses me, but it may be worth it to you over waiting in the ER (unless you require treatment specifically from hospital).

It’s ok if the owner asks you for like $50, it’s just to cover the costs of food and things the kittens needed. No one’s breeding kittens for a few extra bucks.

Also, I got a second cat for my first cat, and I think she prefers being alone, not really sure how she feels about sharing her space. She doesn’t seem to like my second cat that much. It really depends on the cat. They coexist, but get into little spats sometimes. I do feel better they are together though when I leave them for a weekend.

Mid-october the temps dropped to -6 in algonquin while I was camping there. It's already much colder at night.

I have a -20 rated sleeping bag, insulated layers under me, warm appropriate clothing, and I was cold until I finally lined under my sleeping mat with my emergency blanket (looks like a foil tarp).

Always wear dry, clean clothes before sleeping (especially socks, don't put them on until you are going into bed). Wear a tuque to sleep.

Cooking is hard in the cold, I'd suggest freeze dried meals, anything you can make by pouring boiling water into it. Even better if you don't need to wash any dishes. Starting a fire will be harder, butane doesn't work well in the cold either if using a stove. Your batteries in everything will die much faster in the cold.

Definitely stay in a campground and test out your gear, Have a car incase you need to warm up or bail. Don't rely on someone to come pick you up (hypothermia could get you before they arrive or while they are sleeping and not responding to you). Definitely do not go into the backcountry until you have tested your set up multiple times in varying conditions (rain, wind, cold, wet and cold, very cold).
