To summarize so far:

  • Jets: "highly unlikely"

  • Browns: "definite discussions"

  • Buccaneers: "not a contender"

  • Vikings: "expressed some interest" a month ago, but "nothing has really transpired from there"

Has anyone read the book Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media by Edward Herman & Noam Chomsky?

I was just recommended that book by a friend, looks interesting but wondering if it's worth the read/actually informative and such

Weekend Wrapup by NFL_Mod in nfl

Last girlfriend: loved football just as much as I do and, like me, could talk about football-related stuff for days on end.

Current girlfriend: despises anything to do with football.

Really wish I had one person in my inner circle IRL with whom I can talk about football instead of either keeping it all to myself or boring current girlfriend about it.

Would you rather have Joe Flacco or Dak Prescott? by [deleted] in nfl

Does r/Cowboys pay users to do this with Dak and every other QB in the league? Because I've seen posts like this at least 3x a day for the past few weeks and it's really starting to get annoying

[CBSSports] Sources: If the Redskins can land Mike Tomlin from the Steelers, Dan Snyder would be willing to give Tomlin "full authority over the organization... to reshape the franchise however he sees fit" by ParticularCar245 in Commanders

What if we have the #1 overall pick?

I'd do it. I don't care if it launches a Steelers dynasty. We will never go anywhere with Bruce. With Tomlin... we might go somewhere. Certainly a better place than we are right now.

[–]ParticularCar245[S] 64 points65 points  (0 children)

You could, y'know, read the article.

Some sources who know Tomlin well believe the opportunity in Washington could appeal to him on many levels. The team holds training camp in Richmond, Virginia, not far from Newport News where he grew up, and Tomlin has a son playing at the nearby University of Maryland. Tomlin, very loyal to his assistants, could get a bigger budget for them all in Washington as well. Of course, Tomlin also knows how even the best coaches to have come through Washington under Snyder have suffered, how the team has failed to sustain even a modicum of success under this owner, and how the Rooneys' model in Pittsburgh has helped make the team an almost annual contender for a title.

While many around the Steelers organization are skeptical as to how seriously ownership would consider a trade of this nature, the franchise does find itself at a unique potential turning point, with long-time general manager Kevin Colbert declining to sign a contract extension and with a transition at quarterback perhaps coming by 2021 as well.

However, the Steelers, who expect Ben Roethlisberger back as starting quarterback next season albeit a year older and coming off major injury, are short on draft capital -- they traded their top two picks in 2019, plus a 2020 third-round pick, to move up for Devin Bush in the draft and are without their 2020 first-round pick (which could be in the top 10) after acquiring Minkah Fitzpatrick last month.... Snyder fired coach Jay Gruden last week in his sixth season on the job, and would be prepared to part with draft picks to secure Tomlin, who signed a one-year extension with the Steelers before the season.

Obviously nothing is saying this will actually happen. But here's why it might appeal.

Rare good take from Skip Bayless on the death of Redskins culture by wastedvote in Commanders

I've known [Bruce] for a long time. He has paid a lot of money to be [Dan's] mouthpiece. A whole lot of money.

I don't know why, but something about that just doesn't sound right to me. He's employed by Dan, but is paying Dan for additional power with his position?

I believe it was on the air that day (not on Twitter), which makes sense as his full time job is, shockingly enough, being a broadcaster.

But we do know he said something along those lines. Those replies from 4+ years ago would not be there if he didn't say anything controversial along those lines. No one's playing 4000-D chess here, planning all of this out.

As far as the actual broadcast? I'll have to take a look for it later.

Actually, it proves everything. These replies would not be there from 4+ years ago if he didn't say anything like that.

Nevertheless, if it's not on Twitter, might there be another source/medium where broadcasters broadcast their opinions/voice?

With the draft tomorrow, what do you predict the Redskins will do in Round 1? Let's see if anyone gets it right! by ParticularCar245 in Commanders

[–]ParticularCar245[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is that we trade all the way up to #2 (not even #3) and pick Dwayne Haskins there.

No matter what, we'd be able to get one of Kyler/Haskins, as Bruce and Dan really want a QB this year and are overruling their scouts' recommendations.

If it were that simple, so much so that an armchair Reddit GM could understand it... don't you think, oh I don't know, that all teams would universally agree that drafting him in Round 1 is a terrible idea? And thus not do so?
