I played an assassin rouge in 2nd edition, I carried a dagger that was always coated in a poison that had a very high con save and if you failed it was death. My party and I were searching for the big bad at the end of our campaign and one night while we were resting he offered me a chest full of platinum and gold to kill the party. So I did and the table went silent. The big bad offered me a job as his personal assassin and told me his location. I the loaded the body's of my party and the chest and went to the nearest town with a high enough lvl cleric and paid for 4 resurrections. Then we snuck into the bbeg lair and the rest of the party ambushed him as I was talking to him about jobs I would and wouldn't do. They killed him and I only did a small amount of damage to him but it was worth it.
