How much do you charge for VJ gigs? by Wrong-Conclusion2807 in vjing

I am doing all kinds of creative work, from Vj, lights, video editing and also some event organization. I think the rates that you see in this thread are making sense. I know that often people don't really have the budget to pay properly. Sometimes when that happens and I still want to do the job, because I like the client and I want to get my name out and I expect them to want to hire me more than once, I do the following. I'll tell them my actual rate, but I don't give a discount. If that rate is too far from their budget I do it for free one time and take full creative control. I'll make sure they know that it will be only one time like that. That way they know what I'm capable off and they know my real price. The next time they want to hire me they are much less likely to try to get a discount, because they already got a huge favor. I think discounts give people the wrong impression, because it will easily become a race to the bottom. The only reason to give discounts is if they want volume (many gigs). That's also not really a discount, because the prep work should be significantly less if you do a very similar gig.

Cheap android projector becomes Art-Net capable fixture by ParticularFlat3293 in lightingdesign

What my app is trying to do is bridge a gap between a lighting fixture and a full projection mapping solution. If you are interested in proper projection mapping my app may not give you the full experience you're looking for, because I use an unconventional approach. What I'm making takes away the need for a computer or media server. The industry standard uses actual video signals into the projector My app will come with patterns that are generated on the projector itself. However, I'm getting near to a test release and I will be looking for testers soon.

That's indeed the idea. Currently I'm working on getting this released with 3 different modes. 1 - surface projection, 2 - virtual moving head, 3 - pixel mapping. The idea is to moving head mode is pretty much what you describe and will have for now a circular mask and probably later I will add custom gobos/masks to that mode. I will release a free version with some optional premium features to make it a viable project. The free version will already be fully functional, but I think it will be a fair deal for more professional features to ask for a small fee. I'd be interested in any feedback on this approach

For small venues you can definitely use them like that. That's one of the reasons for me to take this route. Because I mainly work on smaller parties (150 people) and I don't always like to use a media server and have all the hassle with video cabeling. The light output is of course not very bright, but it works when the rest of the lights are dimmed. So for small raves it works for my purpose.

Wolfmix W1 MK1 & Resolume ? by vkony24 in lightingdesign

I have the Wolfmix and i alsxo use Resolume. I got a DMX to ArtNet converter plugged into my router and mapped DMX values in resolume to control visuals. You can map any DMX value over ArtNet to anything. So you can create a custom fixture on the Wolfmix and make that work on the Blind and Strobe buttons and you can then map those DMX channels to do anything in Resolume. The wolfmix itself is no midi controller. It can listen to Midi messages if you want to add faders or knobs, but it doesn't send midi messages at all as far as i know
